Exceptional Loads in Beam Deflections

Using standard deflection equations from strengths of materials texts, prediction and measurement of deflections of uniform, uniformly varying, mixed, and sinusoidal loads.

Experiment Time: 1.5 Hours

This experiment is intended to investigate:

  1. The effect of uniform loads on deflection of simply supported beams in several modes (click on an image for an enlarged view)

  2. The effect of uniformly varying loads on deflection of simply supported beams in several modes (click on an image for an enlarged view)

  3. The effect of sinusoidal loads on deflection of simply supported beams (Several Modes, no pictures are currently available)
  4. The effect of uniform loads on deflection of cantilever beams in several modes (click on an image for an enlarged view)

Time requirements (for a recommended group size of 2 to 3 people):

  • Setup Time: 15 to 20 minutes
  • Experiment Time: approx. 45 minutes for simply supported and 45 minutes for cantilever support
