Data Analysis
A sophomore level experiment that comprehensively
reviews basic statistical tools; including histograms, population
sample and mean, standard deviation, and other statistical tools.
Experiment Time: 2 hours
This experiment is intended to investigate:
- Histograms
- Population and sample mean
- Variance and standard deviation
- Probability
- Central tendency
- Error
- Minimum required number of samples
- Reliability
There are two variations for this experiment:
- Use pre constructed data from pre-measured washers. (available)
- Supply washers to the students for groups to measure the washers
and use the data generated to perform the statistical analysis.
Note to the Instructor:
It is highly recommended that the pre-measured approach be taken
for at least the initial run of this experiment so that the general
concept of this experiment is well understood. Attempting the
student created data method the first time this experiment is
attempted will be very difficult to complete.

This exercise may be conducted by groups of students outside
of lab time
