Financial Assistance Tips
Your Name and Social Security Number
Make sure these two items are on every document submitted to the Office of Student Financial Assistance on your behalf.
Personal Identification Numbers (PINs)
T.E.S.S. PIN
The Office of Records and Registration assigns every TCNJ student a T.E.S.S. PIN number. The PIN number is a six digit number used to access the T.E.S.S. system to register for classes, request transcripts, view your class schedule, access your financial aid information, verify your enrollment and perform other pertinent student processes. The T.E.S.S. PIN number is also required to release student information via the telephone to a third party.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid PIN
When completing the online FAFSA for financial assistance, students and parents must apply for a FAFSA PIN number. This PIN number will enable both the student and the parent to sign the FAFSA electronically and to access the FAFSA information submitted by the processor.
TCNJ Online Card Office PIN
The TCNJ Get It Card account offered by The College allows students to deposit money onto their TCNJ ID card to purchase items on campus and at selected off campus merchants. Students must create a PIN number in order to add value to the Get It Card account. Family members who wish to deposit funds onto the student's TCNJ Get It Card account must also create a PIN number.
Update Your Address
It is your responsibility to ensure The College has your current address; otherwise, you may not receive important financial assistance information or your semester term bill. All official college correspondence is sent using the address that is listed upon admission to The College. It is the student's responsibility to update their permanent and/or local address. The Office of Records and Registration maintains student addresses. Students may update this information via the TCNJ web site ( http://tess.tcnj.edu/).
Please note the address information listed on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) does not change your address in The College's student system. If the address listed on the FAFSA is different from the address listed on your admissions application, you must update your address via T.E.S.S.
Where We Send Your Mail
The preferred method of communication is via e-mail. Students should monitor their TCNJ e-mail account regularly. You may also monitor your e-mail account off-campus via the TCNJ website.
During the academic year, financial aid information will be mailed to your campus box (if you have one) or your permanent address.
During the summer and often during long breaks, we will mail information to your permanent address.
E-Mail, U. S. P. S. Mail, and Voice-Mail are all resources that the Office of Student Financial Assistance will be using to communicate with students. Make sure that you access these resources on a frequent basis to ensure that you have up-to-date information.
Respond to Requests for Information Promptly
The sooner you send us required information, the sooner we can continue processing your financial assistance application.
