SPRAYING FOR PINE BEETLES
Dendroctonus Ponderosae (Mountain Pine Beetles) are laying waste to millions of pine trees in Colorado. My property has about 100 pines and six of them have now been infected, so I now have to spray the healthy trees each year to prevent the beetles from moving to them. The chemical that is recommended is Carbaryl, the main ingredient in Sevin. The warning label say not to let it get on your skin and do not breath in the vapors, which is almost impossible to do when you are spraying pine trees on all sides up to 30'. I'm wearing disposable coveralls, rubber boots, proctologist gloves, a respirator with organic filters, motorcycle goggles, and a bandana over my head.
