Black Swallowtail Butterfly

Here is a photo by my friend Jim Sisson of a new black swallowtail butterfly (nickname according to Audubon is the "parsley swallowtail") that came out of a chrysalis. For the two weeks prior to pupating, she was a pretty green, yellow and black caterpillar, eating parsley, dill weed, and queen anne's lace.
