School District Information

Participation in CCS @TCNJ for transition services is intended to provide college/community-based experiences for the purpose of developing specific skills related to the student’s transition from school to adult life.

CCS@TCNJ transition services does not represent a secondary educational program and is not intended to provide all services that may be detailed in the student’s Individualized Education Program, for example "OT or PT services". The student will not matriculate into the TCNJ accredited system.  An outline of transition services and expected student outcomes must be developed prior to the start of services.

What CCS is: What CCS is NOT
  • An educational program for students with intellectual  disabilities ages 18-25
  • An opportunity to attend and receive instruction on a college campus
  • An opportunity to attend classes/campus events with peers
  • An opportunity to receive peer mentor support for both coursework and social recreation
  • An educational program designed to provide vocational awareness and selection, specific skill development and on the job support
  • An orientation to increased community independence through life long learning
  • A receiving school district
  • A Public College Operated Program
  • An Approved Private School for the disabled

Coursework and field experience in the following four focus areas:

1. Liberal Studies

  • Freshman Seminar
  • Using Technology
  • Great Conversations

 

2. Vocational Development

  • Career Exploration and Planning
  • Business Labor and Community resources
  • Work experience internship I & II

 

3.   Socialization/leisure

  • Coursework that will enhance social/communication/relationship abilities
  • Heath and wellness seminar

 

4.   Independent Life

  • Coursework that focus on self advocacy/assertiveness/citizenship and social needs
  • Community living skills

5. Mentor Support

  •  Assisting students with academic support
  • Providing social/recreational opportunities on and off campus

6. Student Outcomes

  • Certificate of Completion from the CCS program
  • Digital Portfolio of CCS accomplishments

  • Transportation to /from campus
  • Residential housing on campus
  • Personal care assistance with mobility, medications or other personal care needs
  • Behavioral management supports for students who require specific individual support needs for challenging behaviors
