FSP Courses & CEL: Youth Development Institute

A Collaboration Involving 6 FSP Courses

On November 18th, 2009, over 300 middle school students from Hedgepeth/Williams School in Trenton and Trenton Central High School West, both Bonner Community Scholar sites, visited campus and participated in their own experiential education "conference." On that day, students from eight FSP courses delivered interesting and enriching workshops to the Trenton Youth.

The day began with an assembly at Mayo Music Hall where students where students enjoyed performances by a variety of TCNJ's cultural groups including iTunes (International Acapella Singing Group) and TCNJ Teiko (Japanese Teiko drum performers). Each group attended at least two sessions.

The session topics and Professors are listed below.

  • "Passport to the Amazon" (Bates)
  • "The Vietnam War" (Maki)
  • "All About Research" (Mi)
  • "What is Freedom?" (Preti)
  • "Does Race Mater?" (Williams)
  • "6th Grade Writing Project (Bonners)
  • "Art and Writing" (Bonners)

Prior to November 18th, most of the FSP students visited the schools and engaged in service activities to get them acquainted with their audience.
