First Seminar CEL Courses

Living in a Virtual World

Professor Janet Mazur

Virtual World

The Internet has become an essential part of our daily lives, effortlessly linking us to people and opportunities we never dreamed possible a few short years ago. In this seminar, students examined how the Internet continues to shape virtually every aspect of our lives, from how we access music to how we seek employment.

Students also addressed the issue of the "digital divide" that not only separates us from people in third world countries but also in our local community. The students taught Liberian refugees from Bethany Lutheran Church basic Internet skills for job searching, researching and contacting family and friends. The students also created personalized materials for the church members to continue their Internet training beyond the semester.
