ClemLab is happy to welcome Izzy Distefano and Brad Newton to the lab! Both are veterans of Systematic Biology and we are excited to welcome them aboard. Izzy will be conducting a study of pollen morphology in the breadfruits, while Brad takes on the assembly and annotation of a Viburnum chloroplast.

Both Izzy and TJ are generating morphological data to study in light of phylogeny. Friday afternoons often consisted of dueling scopes examining pollen and seed morphology.

As everyone returned home to TCNJ refreshed from summer, we heard all about everyone’s summer experiences. Alanna presented her summer REU research from Cornell at the annual TCNJ Women in Science event (see left) and drew quite a crowd!

Throughout the semester everyone made extraordinary progress on their projects. A the end of the semester we celebrated with lab talks and a celebration as we planned for the coming semester (se picture above!).
