CURRICULUM IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL (CURR 510)
CURRICULUM INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT
This interview should focus on the process of curriculum development and
revision in a particular setting. In addition to examining the process,
the roles of various individuals and groups should be explored. Naturally
because of time limitations involved in such an interview, you should
approach it in an organized fashion and your questions should be designed
to provide answers that will improve your knowledge and understanding of
the topic.
Develop questions that will elicit general information about the school
and/or district. These questions might include size of staff, number of
students, organization of the school, socio-economic status of the
community, etc. Such introductory questions would allow for the
opportunity to develop a suitable comfort level for the interview.
Following the introductory types of questions, it is suggested that you
proceed by asking questions that focus on the process and the various
roles of the people and groups involved in curriculum development and
revision. Usually you will have to ask clarifying questions in order to
capture the critical elements. These are constructed as the need arises.
Another suggestion is to seek the opinions of the person being
interviewed. Opinions regarding the obstacles, challenges, trends and
chances of future curriculum successes should enlighten the interviewer
and increase the overall understanding of the curriculum process and of
the key roles that individuals and groups play in this process.
