Public Art

With the guidance of Sarah Cunningham, Michelle Nugent will work with community residents to create and support public artwork in Trenton, NJ.  Projects include:

Sarah Cunningham is the director of The College Art Gallery at TCNJ. During her career, Cunningham has curated over 20 exhibitions and provided administrative support for many more. Prior to her appointment at TCNJ, she worked as the director of programs for the Worcester Center for Crafts and served as the neighborhood artist-in-residence for the Woonsoocket Neighborhood Development Corporation, the curator of exhibitions and public programs at the Alice Austen House Museum and executive director of the Albany Center Galleries. As a consultant, Cunningham has provided curating, nonprofit management and teacher training services. She received her BA in American Studies from Tufts University and her MFA in Art Photography from Syracuse University.

Michelle Nugent is currently a junior at The College of New Jersey majoring in Fine Arts with a minor in Art History. She has presented her own artwork within the College’s annual student art exhibitions since she was a freshman, and interned at several Philadelphia non-profit galleries as well as the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She also works as a gallery assistant at The College Art Gallery. Having worked with children at Ewing Head Start, as well as daycares in Camden, NJ, Nugent is excited to work with Trenton’s community on this summer’s public art project. She hopes this mission to create public art with the helping hand of Trenton’s residents will promote even greater pride and connection to Trenton as not just a city, but also a center of cultural diversity with strong community ties. Upon completing her undergraduate studies at TCNJ, Michelle plans to attend graduate school to achieve her Masters in Fine Arts.
