Hurricane Sandy Cleanup
Hurricane Sandy Cleanup
On January 5th members of TCNJ Humanitarian Engineering and TCNJ’s student chapter of ASCE took time out of their winter breaks to assist with Hurricane Sandy Cleanup in Belmar, NJ. Belmar, located right on the beach, suffered from a large amount of damage during Hurricane Sandy. Although it has been over two months since the hurricane hit, there is still plenty of cleanup work to be done.
Belmar’s town council directed us towards areas of Belmar and specific houses that need the most help. We spent the first part of their day at a house located adjacent to the beach working on sand removal. The rest of the day was spent at a house about one mile inland. We assisted the owner in removing a large amount trash, destroyed furniture and other possessions from their property. The owner was very grateful and in rewarded us with some chocolate cake!
