Student Organization Descriptions

American Advertising Federation

The American Advertising Federation is a national organization established at this campus in 1993. It is open to anyone interested in getting practical experience in advertising, copywriting, market research, media planning, video production, layout and graphic design. We compete in several different competitions annually, for which we design different add campaigns from start to finish. Great portfolio and resume building! All majors are welcome.

Asylum-The Writer's Club

If you're a slightly off-beat poet, novelist, songwriter, or just like to scribble indiscriminately, Asylum us for you. We provide a supportive environment in which students are able to share their works and receive constructive criticism from their peers. We also sponsor events that help writers cultivate their talents.

Biological Society

This organization is open to all majors. Information concerning the latest development involving biological issues are provided to members trough guest speakers, lectures, films, and discussion groups. Club membership is determined by attendance at meetings and involvement in club activities. Activities include camping trips, trips to area museums, informational parties, picnics and other recreational activities. Meetings are held on a bi-weekly basis to prepare for club activities. The organization also facilities interaction between students and faculty on an informational basis and introduces students to postgraduate options in the biological field.

Chi Sigma Iota

The Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota , the International Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society, is open to graduate students in counseling who have an overall scholastic average of 3.5 or better in their last semester. The purposes of the chapter are to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, and excellence in counseling, and to recognize the high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the field of counseling. The Epsilon Chapter meets twice a year. The fall semester meeting features continuing education along with social gathering. The spring semester highlights annual induction of new members.

Council for Exceptional Children

The Council for Exceptional Children is an international professional organization for both professionals and students in the field of special education. The organization .s goals include educating the public on exceptional children, stimulating community involvement in areas of concern to the exceptional child, and encouraging increases services and opportunities for these children. Professional growth and fellowship is encouraged through various workshops and educational activities. Dance Team

The team was formed in 1998, and is open to all TCNJ students. Tryouts are held every september, with some in April if needed. We are a high energy group, with most girls having extensive dance training, but also with some who have had little to none. For more information, please e-mail dancers@tcnj.edu

Delta Mu Delta

Delta Mu Delta is the national honor society in business administration. The Gamma Iota Chapter is located at the College Of New Jersey , and installation ceremonies are held each year. The chapter sponsors various activities relating to business and professional career preparation. Students who had completed their sophomore year and stand in the upper fifth of their class are eligible for membership in the society, which has active chapters in over eighty colleges and universities in the United States.

Friendship Day Committee

The Friendship Day Committee serves children with disabilities in the Trenton community. Friendship Day takes place one Saturday per month, 10 A.M.-3 P.M., and provides an opportunity for not only special education majors, but also for anyone interested in volunteering services to a child with mental and physical disabilities. Counselors and children work and play together on a one-on-one basis. Each day has a particular theme, usually corresponding to the month it takes place. Health and Physical Education, and Recreation Club

The purposes of the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Club are: 1) to encourage membership in the professional organizations in the fields of health, physical education, and recreation; 2) offer The College of New Jersey .s students opportunities to participate in meetings, workshops, conferences, and conventions to enhance their professional development; 3) to provide personal growth through services in the department, college and community.

Institute of Industrial Engineers

The Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) is a pre-professional society targeted to students majoring in engineering science and specializing in industrial engineering. Through lectures, plant tours, workshops, and dinner meetings with the senior chapter, students are exposed to many facets of the industrial engineering field. An opportunity is provided to join the national chapter and to receive a monthly trade publication that reflects current trends in industry. Meetings are held monthly on the first Wednesday in Armstrong Hall A27 at 1 P.M. All are welcome to attend.

Jazz Lab

The Jazz Lab was organized for the education of future performers and music teachers. Jazz Lab performs concerts throughout the year in campus dinning halls, the Brower student Center, Rathskeller, local high schools, colleges and community functions.

Langston Hughes Players

Langston Hughes Players is a theatrical company, which was formed in September of 1972. Our main objective is to allow the college community (and their guests) to experience black theater. Meetings are usually held every Wednesday in the Brower Student Center.

Lion's Twirlers

The TCNJ Twirlers was formed in 1990. The group is made up of twirlers from all over the state with various twirling backgrounds. During basketball season the twirlers put on a half-time show. They also participate in parades representing The College and compete in state and local competitions.

Medical Careers Society

The Medical Careers Society aids and encourages students interested in careers in medical, veterinary, dental, and health-related fields such as optometry, physical therapy, pharmacy, podiatry, and the basic medical sciences. The club works in concert with the Medical Careers Advisory Committee (composed of six faculty) to provide information about applications, pre-professional exams, (e.g. MCAT, DAT, OAT, and GRE), interviews, admissions, relevant part-time and co-op employment, and financial aid. It organizes guest lectures, offers field trips, and fosters cooperation among those students considering professional careers.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)

The NAACP is the only major civil rights organization, which encourages young people to participate fully in all aspects of its structure. The principle objective of the Youth and College Division is leadership development. Just as the NAACP has been the training ground for a majority of the black leaders in America, the Youth and College Division has provided many minority youths with a positive and responsible experience in making our democracy work.

National Association for Black Accountants

NABA is an organization that addresses the professional needs that enable minorities to maximize their career potential in the accounting and business professions. NABA is a national organization that has grown over 3,000 members in over 130 active professional and student chapters in major urban areas and universities across the nation. NABA is dedicated to uniting students with similar interests and ideas who are committed to professional and academic excellence. Our goals are:

  • To promote and develop the professional skills of our members;
  • To encourage and assist minority students in entering the accounting/business profession;
  • To provide opportunities for members to fulfill their civic responsibility;
  • To promote public confidence in our members and their service;
  • To encourage cordial relations among members and cooperative relations with other professionals;
  • To ensure long-term financial stability and provide adequate resources to implement chapter, regional and national programs;
  • To represent the interest of current and prospective minority accounting/business professionals; and
  • To ensure chapters operate at an effective level.

National Student Speech, Language, and Hearing Association

The Speech, Language, and Hearing Association welcomes speech pathology, audiology, EHI, and other interested students to learn more about speech and language related topics. This nationally affiliated club organizes lectures, trips, social activities, and fundraisers to promote interest in the field as well as to create more personal relations with students and faculty within the major. Both students and faculty work together to provide learning experiences supplemental to classroom discussion.

Order of the Omega

The Mu chapter of Order of the Omega was founded at The College of New Jersey on April 20, 1992. It is a national Greek Leadership Honor Society of students, faculty, and administrators. The purpose of the organization is to recognize outstanding Greek Leaders who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter-Greek activities. Order of the Omega brings together the representative fraternity and sorority members to create and organization which will help mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate affairs on the basis of mutual interest, understanding, and helpfulness. Applications for the student, faculty, and administrator membership are accepted both in the fall and spring semesters.

Percussion Ensemble

Percussion Ensemble was organized for the education of future performers and music teachers. The Percussion Ensemble is designed to expose the general public to new and interesting dimensions of music.

The Seal

The Seal is the College of New Jersey's yearbook. The publication is student-run and student-financed. The staff attempts to present the entire campus through pictures and prose. The Seal needs volunteers; experience is preferred. Any student is eligible to join.

Sigma Phi Omega

The Sigma Chapter of the Sigma Phi Omega, the National Academic and Honor Society of Gerontology, is open to students specializing in gerontology who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above in their last semester. "Service to older persons" is the motto of Sigma Phi Omega and the organization is dedicated to the promotion of scholarship, professionalism, friendship, and service in the field of gerontology. The Sigma Chapter meets twice a year. The fall semester meeting features continuing education along with a social gathering. The spring semester meeting highlights a dinner and the annual induction of new members.

Student Exchange Organization

The Student Exchange Organization promotes national and international exchange programs and study abroad opportunities that are available for The College Of New Jersey students. It sponsors activities to increase international understanding and provide multicultural experiences for the campus community.
