Tips to getting financial aid without delay:
- Complete your tax return - We recommend that you (and your parents if you are a dependent student) complete your Federal tax return (2007) before filling out your 2008/09 FAFSA. This will make completing the FAFSA easier.
- File FAFSA electronically - Save time by filing electronically (FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov). Complete and submit your FAFSA online; that is the fastest and most accurate way to apply for student aid.
- Sign your FAFSA - Don't forget to sign your completed FAFSA! Dependent students require a student and parent signature on the FAFSA. For electronic filers, the PIN will allow you to sign your FAFSA electronically and later to access your processed FAFSA online. One of your parents must also sign your application. To sign electronically, your parent must apply for his or her own PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. Please note: you may also print a "signature page" from the FAFSA, sign and mail it to:

- Designate your school - Be sure to list The College of New Jersey to receive your information. To do this, include TCNJ's school code, 002642, in addition to listing the name and address of the school.
- Submit your application - You can submit your application as early as January 1, 2008. Keep in mind that TCNJ's recommended filing deadline is March 1, 2008. This will ensure your aid is processed in time for your Fall 2008 bill.
- Confirm receipt of your FAFSA - After you submit your FAFSA electronically, make sure you receive a confirmation number. This number tells you that your application has been successfully submitted. Keep this confirmation number for your records.
- Follow up on your FAFSA - Your application will be processed and you will receive an e-mail with a link to your Student Aid Report (SAR). If you did not provide an e-mail address, you will receive your SAR by mail. You should review your SAR for any necessary corrections or updates. If you do not receive your SAR within three weeks, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and select: "check status of a submitted FAFSA."
