Can you be forgiven?You may be eligible to have your Perkins loan paid for you! Review the following criteria to see if this special program of loan forgiveness applies to you: TeachingFull-time in a public or other nonprofit school that has been designated as serving primarily students with low income households. Also, teachers that teach mathematics, science, foreign languages, bilingual education, or any other field determined as having a shortage of qualified teachers in the State. Early Intervention ServicesA full-time qualified professional provider of early intervention services in a public or other nonprofit program under public supervision by a lead agency as authorized by section 672(2) of the Individuals with Disabilities Act. Law EnforcementA full-time officer for an eligible local, State or Federal law agency or a full time corrections officer. Nurse or Medical TechA full-time nurse or medical technician providing health care services. Child or Family Svc. AgencyA full-time employee of an eligible public or private nonprofit child or family service agency who is providing or supervising the provision of services to high-risk children who are from low-income communities and the families of such children. For all careers, cancellations are done over 5 years. During the first and second years, 15% of your loan is canceled. During the second and third years, 20% of your loan is canceled. During year five, the remaining 30% of your loan is canceled.
