new grants for tcnj students:The Academic competitiveness grant and the smart grantOn February 8, 2006 President Bush signed into law two new federal grant programs for the 2006-07 academic year. Certain college freshmen and sophomores will be eligible for up to $750 per year as freshmen and $1,300 per year as sophomores as a result of this new program. To qualify the student must be Pell eligible, must be a U.S. citizen and must have graduated from a rigorous course of study as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The Smart Grants, for college juniors and seniors, will make certain students eligible for up to $4,000 per year. The students must be Pell eligible and U.S. citizens. In addition, they must maintain a 3.00 G.P.A. and be pursuing majors in math, science, technology, engineering or a "critical foreign language" as defined by federal statutes. |
