FINGER TECHNIQUE
The sum total of all technique one can acquire on the clarinet is indeed astounding. Scales, arpeggios, thirds etc. without end, are more or less easily attained by careful, concentrated and meticulous practice. Each in its own place solidifies a particular phase of clarinet technique that will certainly be called upon in the course of repertoire performed. There are always the few examples of exceptional players who have had to spend very little time in the every day practice of the above mentioned routine - they are the rare cases, and are what are referred to as "naturally gifted" players. This means that they possess good finger position and fast reading ability with excellent eye/finger coordination. They don't have to spend hours trying to attain good facility, they do it in half the time.
