My Professional Activities during 2005

  1. Attended a one-day "Global Management Seminar on January 15, 2005. This seminar was lead by Dr. Doug Peterson of the School of Business at The College of New Jersey. Topics covered included 1) The Environment of International Management; 2) Cultural Influences in International Management; and 3) International Strategic Management.


  2. Taught a section of MAT 125, Calculus for Business for TCNJ's mathematics and statistics department.


  3. Attended a one-day mini-conference on data mining sponsored by the Mathematics and Statistics department of The College of New Jersey. This conference included two morning presentations on data mining and an afternoon hands-on workshop. The workshop enabled us to use SAS's data mining tools to perform regression analysis on large data sets.


  4. Elected group-leader of a sub-group of faculty who teach statistics in TCNJ's School of Business. This election was based upon a recommendation from the Dean of the School of Business.


  5. Currently doing database design consulting with CONTACT of Mercer County, NJ, a non-profit agency that offers a crisis hotline service to the public. This consulting deals with the design and implementation of an Access database that tracks frequent callers. This consultation began on January 19, 2005.


  6. I continue serving as the computer science Coordinator for our Collegebound program at TCNJ.


  7. Attended a seminar on Geographic Information Systems presented by the staff of TCNJ's Center for Municipal Land Use Planning on May 10, 2005.


  8. Attended the Sixth Annual Instructional Technology Workshop at The College of New Jersey on May 11, 2005. This all-day event featured seminars on Using Interactive Tools in Web-Enhanced Courses, Geographic Information Systems, Using Open Source Applications for Web Development, IT Support and Field Research in China, and Using SOCS to Integrate Library Resources with Course Content.


  9. Attended and actively participated in "Statistics in Action: An Activity-Based Approach to Teaching Statistical Concepts", a three day faculty development course held at Temple University from June 9 till June 11, 2005. This is a Chautauqua-Short Course sponsored by the National Science Foundation.


  10. I taught two sections of ECO 231, Business and Economic Statistics during the Fall, 2005 semester.


  11. Attended a one-day course entitled "Presenting Data and Information" given by Dr. Edward Tufte, of Yale University. This course was held in Trevose, Pennsylvania on September 23, 2005, and was attended by about 500 people from the academic and corporate world.

  12. Attended a "Curriculum Innovations in Management Education Conference" at Boston University on Friday, October 21, 2005. This conference emphasized "Information Technology Education." I went to this conference at the rquest of the Dean of the School of Business, here at TCNJ. One result of this attendance is my participation in a faculty committee whose objective is to re-design our first course in information systems.
