My Professional Activities during 2003
- Taught two Collegebound classes on January 18, 2003. These two
classes were introduced to the idea of database management first. Then
each class learned how to view a table, add, modify, and delete data from
a table; use a form for data entry; run a query; and finally, create and
print a report. Access 2002 was used to perform these activities.
- Taught two additional CollegeBound classes on March 22, 2003.
These two classes were devoted to creating database tables using Microsoft
Access 2002. Table design included the concepts of data types, primary
keys, validation rules, validation text, and indexing. Students used the
Form Wizard to create data entry forms. Data was entered into their
tables using these forms.
- Served as Chairperson of the School of Business Tenure and
Reappointment Committee for the academic year 2002 - 2003.
- Presented a three-hour seminar on E-Government to N.J. County
officials at the second annual LEAD Program on Friday, May 2, 2003 in
Trenton, NJ. Learn, Excel, and Deliver
(LEAD) is a certificate program sponsored by The New Jersey
Associatoin of
Counties and is carried out by faculty from The School of Business at The
College of
New Jersey.
- Presented a half-day seminar on database management to
directors of local nonprofit agencies on Wednesday, May 7, 2003.
This talk was part of the "NonProfit Management Certificate Program"
sponsored by our School of Business as well as
Drucker, Rahl, and Fein, a member of the Mercadien Group.
- Taught HTML and Javascript to tenth and eleventh graders in
the Collegebound 2003 session. The session lasted
for five weeks during the summer of 2003.
- Attended a Seminar on Web Document Design for Non-Profit Organizations sponsored by a local accounting firm and held at the
Green Acres Country Club in Lawrenceville, NJ on November 13, 2003.
- Taught "What If" Analysis using the Excel spreadsheet software to ninth and eleventh grade students in TCNJ's Collegebound
Program on Saturday, November 22, 2003.
- Helped develop the syllabus for a one-half-semester course in information systems in collaboration with colleagues in the
information systems management area of the school of business. This course was developed during the fall semester in response to the
school of
business's process of
transformative change in its curriculum
- Developed and wrote the transformed syllabus for the school of business's course entitled MIT 371, Database Management for
Business. This was finished during the latter half of the fall semester. This course will be offered during the Fall, 2004 semester.
