My Professional Activities during 2000

  1. Enrolled in Web Developer, a web-based course sponsored by New Jersey Institute of Technology. This 30-hour course includes topics in scripting, PERL, JAVA, database management, cookies, CGI variables, and active server pages. This course goes from December 15, 1999 until January 16, 2000.
  2. Successfully completed BC 360, UNIX/Oracle a five-day course offered by SAP America. This course met in Waltham, Mass. from January 10th to the 14th.
  3. Successfully completed "Web Developer" a 30-hour, web-based course offered by NJIT. Full financial support for this course's tuition was received from TCNJ's Career Development Committee. (See first item, above.)
  4. Was a table leader at the Lawrence Rotary Career Day held at Rider University for juniors and seniors at Lawrence High School. Here I led a discussion on careers in the information systems field.
  5. Participated in the Joint Ewing Lions/Kiwanis Clubs meeting on March 30th. Mr. Tim Wade, Ewing Schools Superintendent presented an overview of Ewing schools and its budget.
  6. Arranged and led a "Restructuring Discussion" for our School of Business faculty on April 5th. I also served orange juice and oatmeal cookies!
  7. Completed a Professional Development Seminar entitled "XML for Applications sponsored by the Princeton Chapter of ACM/IEEE Computer Society, 2000 Spring Seminar on April 8th.
  8. Presented five talks on our BISM curriculum to visiting parents and high school students at TCNJ's annual Spring Day on April 9th.
  9. Attended and completed two NSF-Sponsored Chautauqua Short Courses, at the Unviversity of Dayton from May 10th to May 17th. The first course is #114, Advanced Guide to the Internet and Web Publishing. The second course is #115, Web Programming.
  10. Presented a paper entitled, "Laptop Computers in Higher Education - What the Web Pages Show and What Questions We Should Ask." at the 28th Annual Conference of the International Business Schools Computer Association in Erie, PA. July 16-18, 2000. Nicole DeLuca '00 was my co-author.
  11. Elected chairperson of a committee charged with forming a "Center for Computing and Information Sciences" at TCNJ. This committee was formed in October 2nd at the urging of the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Its purposes include the investigation of cooperation among various departments, interdisciplinary teaching, integrated courses, and general oversite of the teaching of computer-related courses.
