Macintosh Instructions

Featuring

• Additional 16 dial-up lines
• USRobotics Total Control MP/16 with sixteen 33.6K baud modems
• 3Com Accessbuilder 4000 supporting IP via PPP

Prerequisites

• System 7.5 through 7.6
• 8MB RAM
• Modem installed and configured for Macintosh
• MacTCP or OpenTransport installed
• Apple Internet Connection Kit (usually supplied with new Macs, or can be purchased for about $50 from an Apple software supplier)

Making a Connection for TCNJ

You will only need to perform the steps in this section once.

1. Install the Apple Internet Connection Kit as per the instructions.
2. Go the the Launcher window.
   The installation puts an alias to Launcher in your Startup Items folder to start it automatically when you start your Mac.
3. Click on the Apple Internet Dialer icon.
4. If the "Welcome to the Internet!" message is displayed, click on the OK button to continue.
5. Don't fill in any information in the dialog box that pops up; instead go to the menu bar and select Provider then Define Provider Information...
6. In the Define Provider Information dialog box, click on the Next button.
7. In the Service Provider Account Information dialog box, enter the following information:
   Provider Name: TCNJ
   User Login: enter your Unix/Dialup login name
   Password: enter your Unix/Dialup password
   Provider Phone Number: (see the dialup phone numbers page for a list of valid phone numbers).
   E-mail Password: enter your Unix/Dialup password
   Finally, click on the Next button.
8. In the Server Information dialog box, enter the following information:
   NNTP Host: news.tcnj.edu
   SMTP Host: smtp.tcnj.edu
   POP Server: pop.tcnj.edu
   E-mail Address: your unix login name@TCNJ.EDU (example: someone@TCNJ.EDU)
   Domain Name: TCNJ.EDU
   DNS Address: 159.91.15.220
   Alternate DNS Address: 159.91.8.25
   Finally, click on the Next button.
9. In the Connection Script dialog box, DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. The pop-up lists should be Send: and the text boxes empty.
   Click on the OK button.
10. Go to the menu bar and choose File then Quit.

Using the TCNJ Connection to Connect to the College

Follow these instructions each time you want to dial into the College.

1. Simply go to the Launcher window and choose the application you want to use. The Apple Internet Dialer will automatically dial the College if necessary.
   Other Internet software (provided separately), such as Netscape 3.01, may also work with the Apple Internet Dialer.

NOTE: If you need help using the applications provided with the Apple Internet Connect Kit, please refer to the provided manual and on-line documentation. The College cannot provide assistance in using Claris Emailer or NewsWatcher.
