Jay Hoffman is entering his fourth season as a member of TCNJ's football staff. He currently is an Associate Professor in the Health and Physical Education Department at TCNJ and will serve as an assistant coach on defense in charge of the defensive line this fall. He also coordinates the Lions' off-season strength and conditioning program.

Hoffman received his B.S. at St. John's University, where he also played football and following graduation in 1983 he signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets. He also played with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL. Hoffman received his M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Queens College and in 1993 a Ph.D. in Exercise Science from the University of Connecticut.

While pursuing his doctorate, he was also on the coaching staff at the University of Connecticut from 1988-1992. Besides coaching football, Dr. Hoffman was the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Basketball team that won the School's first Big East Conference Title in 1990 and reached the Final Eight and Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament in 1990 and 1991 respectively. In 1993, Dr. Hoffman coached Professional Basketball in Israel and later became a member of the coaching staff for the Israel National Youth Basketball Team that took first place in the European Championships (Semi-final round) in 1997.

Academically Dr. Hoffman has been quite active in 'bridging the gap' between the laboratory and the playing field. His research efforts have resulted in over 35 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and over 50 scientific presentations at national and international meetings. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and was recently named Outstanding Junior Investigator for the year 2000 by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He and currently serves on the Association's Research Committee.

Dr. Hoffman and his wife Yaffa reside in Langhorne, PA with their three children; Raquel, Mattan, and Ariel.
