Biographical Sketch

Dr. Facas received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Villanova University in 1981 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees both in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in 1983 and 1985 respectively.

Following his PH.D. graduation, Dr. Facas joined the General Electric Co, Astro-Space Division in West Windsor NJ as a member of the technical staff  where he worked on many classified projects. Other responsibilities included: writing computer software for laser effects; developing and validating thermal math models; supporting thermal vacuum testing; and supporting critical design reviews. He was associated with the GE Astro-Space division until September 1991.

Dr. Facas joined the Department of Engineering at The College of New Jersey in September 1988 where he is currently a tenured professor and chair of the engineering department. He was elected chair of the engineering department in February 1995. Since 1988 he has taught every year for the Lockheed Martin Co. Advanced Engineering A-Course in Moorestown NJ in the areas of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Compressible Fluid Mechanics and Advanced Engineering Mathematics. 

Dr. Facas has consulted for a number of companies on various space related projects including the Large Energy National Shock (LENS) Tube Tunnel of  Calspan Corp, ATT-6000 satellite project, and the trash incinerator project of Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.

In 1998 he was elected chair of the ASME Mechanical Engineering Department Heads Committee - Region III for a two year term. He is also an ASME evaluator for the Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)

Dr. Facas has frequently served as an expert witness in product liability cases. He holds two patents and he is a registered professional engineer in the state of New Jersey. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society for Engineering Education.

Dr. Facas is a married, father of two children.
