MEETING MINUTES: 3/5/2008

Events

MKSD Field Day: Our Spring Field Day with either be on Wednesday, April 16th, or Wednesday, April 23rd. We are currently waiting for a date confirmation from MKSD staff so sit tight! We will discuss possible activity ideas and sign ups at future meetings.

Paired Readings: Lauren Senko’s group is doing their Paired Reading project today, Wednesday, March 05, 2008. We hope they are having a great time. We still need one English reader and one ASL signer for Elaine’s group. You would be visiting a Sign Club in Middletown on 4/4/08 at 5:20 pm. If this date and time works for you email the club and we will add you to the list. We also need one English reader for Nicole L.’s group who is traveling to a Flemington Elementary School on Wednesday, 4/2/08 at 1pm. Rides will most definitely be provided for both groups. *Thanks to everyone who has participated in the Paired Reading Project, you are all great!

Elections: The time is coming for us to elect new Executive Board members for next year (2008-2009). Elections will take place at our next general meeting, which will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 1pm (FH 349). Make sure you come out to the meeting to vote, and most importantly, if you are interested in running for a position… read on:

*There are 3 open positions on the E-Board for next year: Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The current secretary, Nicole Lavender, as well as the current treasurer, Elaine Smolen will be running for the positions they currently hold. There is also one general club member running for the VP spot at this current time.
*If you are interested in running for any of these positions, you must email the club and let us know. It is important that you email us NO LATER THAN this Friday, March 7, 2008 at 3pm.
*These positions are open to all members (any year: rising freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) so if you are interested just make sure to send us a quick email with your name and what position you plan to run for. Being an E-Board member provides you many great experiences and opportunities, and is a place for you to put those wonderful skills of yours to work.

Here is some brief information regarding the responsibilities each E-Board member holds:
• President: presides over meetings, guides other officers in carrying out their responsibilities and roles, coordinates organizational activities, has full understanding of Constitution and By-Laws
• Vice President: presides over meetings in the case the President is absent, assumes duties of the President in such instances, ensures the duties of the Historian are fulfilled
• Treasurer: financial status of the organization, keep up-to-date net account of all transactions, liaison between DHC and SFB (Student Finance Board), proposes a budget during the spring semester for the upcoming academic year
• Secretary: keeps record of all meetings and attendees, responsible for informing club members of any announcements made during meetings (through meeting minutes), records all events and activities of the organization

*Please note: we will also be holding sign-ups for our different committees, and we will especially be looking for people to chair the committees. You can become an active DHC member by joining a committee: Publicity, Programs, Outreach, Fundraising, and/or Historian. If you have any questions about these committees please feel free to contact us. We will discuss these further at our next meeting.


Other News

Children of a Lesser God will be playing in Freehold on all weekends up until April 13, 2008. Tickets are $22 each for students, and for more information you can check centerplayers.org and the DHC bulletin board on the third floor in Forcina.


Fundraising

Fwingers Keychains are now on sale for $5 each. There is an assortment of colors to choose from. The keychains have been selling quickly so let us know if you are interested in purchasing any and we will look into ordering more. We do still have some left and will continue to sell them at meetings and events.

NJ DEAF ED hoodies are available. Sweatshirts cost $35 each and your order forms must be completed and handed in (with your cash payment) by Friday, March 21, 2008. There is a separate attachment of the Sweatshirt Order Form. Just simply print it out, fill it out, and get it to an E-Board member at a meeting, event, or email us and we can arrange for a time to meet up.

Color of Language Calendars: we still have a handful left so if you are interested just let us know.


REMEMBER… WE WILL BE VOTING FOR NEXT YEAR’S EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS AT OUR NEXT MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2008 (1PM, FH 349). EMAIL US IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN RUNNING FOR ONE OF OUR OPEN POSITIONS AND TRY TO MAKE IT OUT TO THAT MEETING TO VOTE.
