Meeting Minutes February 21, 2007

ASL Chat and Snack Time
TOMORROW! Thursday, February 22 at 4:30 PM. Join two employees of the college (who also happen to be students) for an ASL chat. It’s a great way keep up your skills! This will hopefully turn into a weekly event! If you’d like to do this, but can’t make this day/time, stay tuned because there might be other days/times in the future.

ASL Story Time
When: March 21st, Time TBA
Where: Moorestown, NJ—Upper Elementary School and Baker Elementary School (it’s about 40 minutes away)
Everyone involved will be meeting on March 7th at 12:30 to practice.
Videotapes to learn the stories from are in the library.

MKSD Field Day—Tentatively planned for April 18th. Start thinking about ideas for games and such or ways that we can improve on our last Field Day

Deaf Blind Speakers—Lauren is working with Dr. Petroff on bringing in a couple of deaf-blind speakers. Stay tuned for more info.

Disability Awareness Day—Monday, April 30th
Applegarth Middle School in Monroe Township (about a half hour away) is having a disability awareness day. They’re looking for guest speakers to present 4 forty minute sessions to groups of about 25 students each and to give the kids a hands-on experience about people with certain disabilities. You’d be there from 8:30 AM till about 12:45 PM and they’ll give you breakfast and lunch! For more information or to sign up, contact Dr. Slobodzian.

Dennis Jones at Burlington County College—March 17th
The deaf author of Tarnished Halos, Crooked Fences is speaking at BCC.
Admission is FREE!

PBS Special
PBS is running a special called “Through Deaf Eyes” and we’re going to gather in the student center (room TBA) at 9:00 to watch it together.

Elections
Elections for our new e-board will also be held on March 21st right before the PBS special. They’re not during our regular meeting time because our meeting time that day will be spent in Moorestown doing the ASL story times. If you want to run for a position, you must let us know by March 7th. Open positions are secretary, treasurer and vice-president.

Next Meeting
Our next meeting is on March 7th at 12:30 (a little earlier than usual). This is a practice session for the story times, so if you’re not a story teller you don’t have to attend (although we’d love to have you!). DHC is a student-run organization at The Collge of New Jersey
