Meeting Minutes February 7, 2007
Unfortunately, we were not able to bring Marlee Matlin to TCNJ. Maybe, in
the future, if we save lots and lots and lots (and lots) of money, we can
try again, but it just wasn’t financially feasible now.
Also, we planned on bringing Mike Dorsey, a deaf stand-up comic here
tomorrow night, but, unfortunately, he had to cancel the show so that he
could take care of his mother who is very ill.
Events Planned for the Semester (so far)
ASL Storytelling at deaf schools
Dr. Slobodzian is heading this project. We signed up at the meeting, if
you’re interested you can e-mail the club and we’ll put you in contact
with her. You can sign up to be an English reader or a signer. This is
perfect for people with minimal ASL skills!!! You can get some experience
and it won’t be too scary!
Katzenbach Day
Since our field day at Katzenbach last semester was so successful, we’re
planning another one for the spring. The tentative date is April 18th, so
keep that open!
PBS Special
On March 21st from 9:00-11:00 PM, PBS is running a special called “Through
Deaf Eyes.” We’re going to get together and watch it as a club. It seems
really interesting, so you should definitely come! Location is TBA.
ASL Weekend
There is an ASL weekend at a hotel in Jamesburg, NJ on March 17-18. It’s
pretty expensive, $150 for the conference and $105 for the hotel room, but
it’s a great experience. If you can’t go this time, think about it for two
years from now (it’s a biennial conference). You must register by 2/28 to
get those rates. If you need more information about it, feel free to
e-mail the club.
Elections
We’ll be holding elections for our new executive board on March 21st.
Positions open are Secretary and Treasurer. If you’re interested, please
let us know by March 9th. Also, if you have any questions about the
election process or the duties of the positions available, please feel
free to e-mail us and ask!
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, February 21st at 1PM in Forcina 349.
