Meeting Minutes November 2006

Past Events
We got feedback about the dinner with the graduates and grad students. Overall it went well and everyone found it fun and informative. We might try to do another one in the spring.

Ideas for the spring semester
Mike Dorsey—Mike is a local deaf comedian who also has cerebral palsy. We’re looking at a Thursday in February to have him perform here. Stay tuned for details.
Katzenbach Field Day—Because of the success of the last one, we want to do another field day at Katzenbach when the weather gets warm again.
ASL Story Hours—We’ve talked about these before, but were never able to do it. We want to go into schools with deaf programs around the state and sign stories. There are/will be video tapes in the library to learn and practice stories from. Once we have more info on that we’ll pass it on to you.

But wait…there’s more!!!!
The biggest event we’re planning for the spring is an appearance by….get ready for it…Marlee Matlin!!!! For those of you who don’t know her, Marlee Matlin is an Oscar-winning deaf actress who has done a lot for the Deaf community over the years. Translation: she’s really famous! Since she’s so famous, however, she’s really expensive. So, our wonderful treasurer, Lauren, has been doing a great job of lining up co-sponsors for the event. We present to SFB this week, so we’ll know by the end of the week whether or not we have funding for the event. If everything goes well, we’ll really need your help and support with things like fundraising and planning the event, so get ready to get involved!!!

Speaking of fundraisers…
We’re having a bake sale on Friday, December 8th in the student center. You should have already gotten e-mails from Lauren about it so please e-mail her or the club if you can bake something or sell stuff at the table.
