Meeting Minutes 04/21/04
1. Introductions of members and old/new officers
-
Daphne is getting more info. About T-shirts (top 10 reasons you know you’re a deaf ed major)
2. Ideas for next year
- Make round Table Discussion with 5th year students an annual event (Change name); invite 5th year students AND alumni
- Field Trip – Helen Keller Center in Long Island (Great Neck?); day trip with vans
- Sign times (lunches), include times for younger students to learn new signs!
- More movie nights, find other movies to watch (Sound & Fury is great, guys, but we’ll have PLENTY of other opportunities to watch it)
- Social club times – “Deaf Education Fun Fun” – include all club members AND all majors
- Groups to check out: Sign-atures, hands for heaven (They sign song lyrics)
- Panel of deaf members from Trenton Silent Club
- Guest Speaker: Look into getting Miss Deaf NJ 2003-2005, Joanne Karaylannidis; find out if she speaks or performs her talent at all
3. Possible Activities with Katzenbach
- Pizza night once a semester, good activity for those who don’t sign yet
- Bowling night (call dorm supervisors)
- Jessica Swallow’s Dance Troupe! (Carolyn and I are excited about this one?), if anyone wants to help out with this next year keep this in mind. Possibly invite them to perform/present.
- Invite the students on campus for dinner
- Overnight Hosting! (Find out what we need to do for that)
4. Community Service <-- This one’s important, guys!
- Find out if we can take “reject” books from Barnes & Noble and donate them
- Quilt & Stuffed Animals for kids? (Dr. Slobodzian can teach us how to quilt)
- Come up with other ideas for service where your talents can be utilized!
5. Fundraising
- Chocolate “I Love You” Lollipops
- Sell food on campus
- Candy sales, candy grams, etc.
- Selling scratch-offs?
6. Future Business
- Set up meetings for next year
- More fundraising ideas
Also, we need people to do the following:
- Post things on our bulletin board outside of the office (including things on our campus and those on other campuses
- WORK ON THE WEBSITE! It desperately needs updating. This can be done over the summer, as long as it is done before the year begins.
If anyone is at all interested in helping out with either of those things, please email me back and let me know!!!
