TCNJ's Greatest Assets Getting used to dealing
with administrative bureaucrats who generally
speaking, have no idea
what desires, concerns, or ambitions of the
average student are.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Living in an atmosphere
(like NJ) where the general public tends to be
intelligent and open
minded.
Department's Greatest Assets
Department's Greatest Liabilities You need more linear
algebra in the curriclum. Also, I was able to
graduate before a lot of
things became crazy with reformed classes and
such, but the
transformation of all the courses could be screwing over
the students.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I thought that TCNJ's
general education courses provided me with a
well rounded education. I
also felt that through those courses, my writing
skills were maintained and improved immensely
from high school. I also
thought that the amount
of field experiences we were given were
beneficial in preparing
for my teaching career. JPE was a great "mini"
students teaching before
senior year.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I feel that the math
courses I took broadened my knowledge of
mathematics, and provided
me with a strong content knowledge for
teaching. More
specifically, for math education, the "teaching math"
courses I took with Dr.
xxxx and Dr. yyyy, were extremely
helpful in my field.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Time management and
perserverance.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I had a poor student
teaching experience. My cooperating teachers were
irresponsible and not helpful. I feel there
needs to be more thorough
screening of cooperating
teachers, and evaluations that TCNJ students
make of their cooperating
teachers should be given serious
consideration. I also
think that during student teaching our supervisors
should check more
thoroughly on what the student teacher's
responsibilities are at
the school they are at. For example, I was
assigned to teach more
classes than the teachers who were under
contract at the school
were.
Department's Greatest Assets I received a strong
content knowledge of mathematics and various
educational processes in
teaching mathematics.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I felt I needed an
overview of high school math to prepare for student
teaching and my present
job. An overview course in our sophomore or
junior year (before JPE)
would be helpful. Included in this course could
be information on the
state standardized tests (GEPA, HSPA, SRA
process). An overview of
each cluster and sample open ended questions.

Comments On Overall Education Due to the numerous
general eduaction classes I took at TCNJ, I
received an excellent
overall education. This along with classes in my
major prapared me greatly
for work at Graduate School.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I received a superb
training from the Dept. of Mathmatics and statistics
necessary to perform well
in my graduate studies. Each class in
mathmatics that I took at
TCNJ was rigourous and through enough that I
feel I graduated for TCNJ with confident
knowledge about pure
mathmatics. i took three
classes: Advanced Calculus, Linear Algebra,
and Geometry. Geometry
was an elective and the other two were
requirements. The content I learned among the various
calculus
classes enabled me to
perform well in Advanced Calculus on the
graduate level. I was
also fortunate to hae taken Linear Algebra 2 at
TCNJ. This was an
excellent reinforcement of the concepts of LInear
Algebra, which without a
doubt helped me in graduate school. Although
the Geometry course I
took on the graduate level was quite different
fromthe Geomety i took at
TCNJ, it still prepared me well for graduate
school.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Confidence in oral
presentaions is definitly something I took away from
TCNJ. This has helped
greatly in performing well as a teacher's
assistant. I had only one
oral presentation in a class this semester at
graduate school, but I'm
sure I will have more as I continue on.
I worked
for the Academic
Enchancement and Tutoring Center at TCNJ for 2
years. That was y first real experience tutoring and
I gained a lot of
comfortableness with it.
Now, I tutor primarily drop-in style at graduate
school and I feel very
confident, and I am able to provide a great help
almost 100% of the time.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities If anything, I would say
I might lack a certain computer literacy since
computer work wasn't
included as much as I had expected in my courses
at TCNJ. A more specific
result is discussed in my response to
quesiton 6.
Department's Greatest Assets Mathmatics at TCNJ was
surelly a rigorous program. I got very
used to
having a large challenging work load. Because of this I have found work
at graduate school to be quite
manageable. I always felt that faculty
at
TCNJ was thorough and
maticulous about problems discussed or
assigned. I feel very
confident in tackling challenging problems here at
graduate school. Ithink
also that the option to study a topic independently
is a great asset.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I would say I feel
slightly handicapped in working with the techonogical
side of mathmatics. My
graduate institution exploits Maple. I really had
no experience with this
and it made the first few assignments more
difficult. It also became
hard to answer all of students' questions since
much of their work was
Maple based. I did get acquainted with
Mathmatica a good deal in
my freshman seminar, but it was not
reinforced throughout the
rest of my math courses at TCNJ.

Comments On Overall Education I cannot believe it has
been eight months since graduation. Still, eight
months later, I wish I
could still be at TCNJ. I value the education I
received more than
anything and I only wish that TCNJ has the grad
program that I needed.
However, I have taken my ecperiences at TCNJ
and used them to hlep me
succeed in grad school. The only
reservation:
I wish I had more direction (and earlier in my
college career).
Comments on Math/Stat Department Overall, my experince in
the stat program was a great one. Not only did I
learn a lot but I truly
enjoyed many of the classes, in particular the stat
options (design of
experiments, regression, nonparametrics.) My first
semester in grad school
was a very successful one and i must give a lot
of credit to TCNJ for
that.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets TCNJ expects a lot from
its sutdents. If you work hard and succeed at
TCNJ, I feel that you
will be well prepared for grad school or a job. You
also learn a lot about
independence.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I went into college
hoping to graduate 4 years later knowing exactly what
I would want to do for
the rest of my life. Some of those
questions were
answered, howeer, I am
still working on the others.
Department's Greatest Assets There are not many
schools that have a statistics program. Many people
that I have come across
have a strong math background but no
background in stat. I
feel that puts me at a good advantage.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Although this has not
been a problem so far, I can see my lack of
experience with the SAS
program hindereing me in the upcoming
semesters. However, I
understand that different programs are used by
different schools and
companies. I also wish that it would have been
expected of me to do an
internship or recieve some other experience.

Comments On Overall Education Currently, I'm employed
as an actuarial analyst. My TCNJ education
tought me how to think
and how to learn very important skills in any
position. However,
considereing I was a statistics major, I do not have
much business experience
as I would like. This is due to my own choice
of courses in school.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I have a very stong
statistics, probablility, and math background which
proves to be helpful on a
daily basis while at work. It would have been
helpful to have training
in using particular computer programs, most
importatly, Excel. So
much math work is dont using Excel, and the benefit
of its use, makes it seem worthwhile to learn
and know.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Most importantly I
learned how to think and solve complex problems.
Also, I learned how to
learn what questions to ask so I could understand
how to study and realte
to the material. Also, of course, being at TCNJ
helped me learn how to
realte to other people Communicating with
others is something a
person will always be learning how to do better.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities My greatest liability
currently is the fact that I still view myself as a
college student. Being
one of only a couple new hires at work currently,
this results in my
feeling like an outsider, someone who dosen't know
anything compared to the
people I work with.
Department's Greatest Assets see # 3
Department's Greatest Liabilities I lack computer skills
needed in most actuarial work. However, this can
easily be picked up on
the job.

Comments On Overall Education I'm going to comment on
questions 1 and 2 together. As far as the math
department is concerned,
I received superb preperation for my career.
However, in the scope of
my overall TCNJ experience I feel math
dominated too much of my
schedule. I wish I had had more open credits
to use for classes in
other subjects that could help make me a more well-
rounded teacher. I would
have loved to take more history of language
classes, both of which I
feel would really help in today's classroom. I
understand the state
requires 30 credits in a content area so I realize
reducing the number of
high-level math electives isn't really the answer,
but I did feel as though
classes I took late Junior and Senior year did not
do much to reinforce the
math skills I needed to be an effective teacher.
Comments on Math/Stat Department See Sec. C
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Experience and greaet
role models. The amount of field experience I
received in teaching has
made me very confident as I enter my career.
Also, the professors in
the math department model what a good math
teacher should be:
willing to reteach amterial, meet with struggling
students, and treat all
students fairly.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities None that I can think of.

Comments On Overall Education TCNJ has equipped me for
my math teaching position on both
necessary fronts:
mathematics and education. The math dept is
rigorous, challenging,
and covers not just the basics. The education
department's greatest
asset is the classroom exposure and experience it
provided me. Sure, I learned important
teaching theories and srategies,
but most of all, I got
experience.
Comments on Math/Stat Department It’s hard to evaluate
this properly at this time since I have not acturally
begun my job, but I do feel well
prepared,especially regardig strategies
and theories. The only
thing I wished was improved are the methods
courses. Specifically, I would have liked to explore
how to tackle a
curriculum decide what to
cut out and not cover, learn to make decisions
about grading, and how to
set up and keep a grade book. In short, the
hands-on stuff.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets classroom experience;
solid math foundation; very positive student
teaching experience
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities see question 2. Also, I was fortunate to take the Special
Education
course "Exceptional
Populations in Society" my first semester (Fall
2000), but I think that
ALL education majors (elementary, secondary,
music ed, etc.) should be required to take it. Also, since I
took it my first
semestr, I have not
retained much of the info about laws and such that
schools expect me to
know.
Department's Greatest Assets Inside the classroom I
learned more about math than I ever realized
existed. I'm stronger in some areas than others,
certainly, but at least I
know something about the
higher, more complicated, and abstract areas
of math, even if it's
simply tht these subjects exist! Outside of the
classroom, I learned how
to work with a partner or team, and that more
than one brain is often
required to prove a theorem!
Department's Greatest Liabilities

Comments On Overall Education The math classes were
great. I only wish that there were more math
education classes that I
could have taken. I thought that most of
the gen.
ed. Classes were a waste
and I wish I could have taken more math
classes.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Again, math classes and
professors were wonderful. I liked how they
made an effort to be
there for everyone. They are all very dedicated to
their jobs. I owe a lor
of my success at TCNJ to the prof's.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Mu understanding and
appreciation of mathamtics improved greatly at
TCNJ. I feel that this
will help me during my own teaching.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I really didn’t learn a
lot about educational theory at TCNJ since I was a
secondary educaiton
major. This hurt me during some job interviews
when people asked me
quesitons about it.
Department's Greatest Assets Same as #3
Department's Greatest Liabilities I wish I had more
experience with math education.

Comments On Overall Education JPE and student teaching
have made me feel prepared to go into my first
year of teaching. Classroom experience was the
most beneficial part of
my college education.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I think of one less
mathmatics content class was included in the
curriculum and reaplaced
by one additional semester of "teaching
mathmatics" calss, I
would feel more prepared.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets A variety of classroom
expericnces at all grade and ability levels.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities None
Department's Greatest Assets Dr. Liebars and Dr.
Cunningham's great ideas for making classrooms
fun and interactive.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Too much time spent learning upper-level mathamtics
that I will not find
practical in my
classroom.
Graduation Date: 5/1/2005 Major Code: MATA
Comments On Overall Education I think too much time was
spent on general education classes. I
would
have likes to take either
a greater number or more in depth classes
relating to my major.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I have greatly enojoyed
the majority of my math classes and feel like I
have learned a lot from
them. I only wish that more content from
the
earlier courses could be
reinforced later so that I would remember it
better.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Getting used to working
hard and time managemenet skills, teamwork,
Computer Science classes
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I don't like the
transformation because you don't have the opportunity to
take as many
classes. There really was no extra work
assigned to do
outside of class so I
feel like students were hurting from it.
Department's Greatest Assets I think writing proofs
and learning how to think logically are soem of the
most important things,
however, in my graduate program, i don't see
proofs being a
factor. Instead, I think linear algebra
and number theory
will prove to be of
greater importance, and I think I got a decent start on
them at TCNJ.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I don't think there were
enough required classes. For example,
differential equations
and number theory I only took as electives.
Even
statistics I am taking as
a senior elective because I feel like I am going
to be expected to know this
information. Beginning courses like
these
should be required. How can I graduate a math major without ever
having to take a
statistics class?

Comments On Overall Education I learned so much at
TCNJ, inside and outside the classroom.
I feel as
though I am entering the
real world with preparation, confidence, and
knowledge.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Overall, I learned a lot
from the department. However, I think
that a few of
the courses should be more geared towards
preparing teachers rather
than preparing
mathematicians.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I an graduating from TCNJ
without any regrets. I have made the
most
out of my time here. TCNJ offers many opportunities to get
involved in
the college community.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I think that registration
week could be run more smoothly. There
always
seemed to be some hassle
with getting the classes and the schedule
that one wanted.
Department's Greatest Assets I feel as though I am
graduating with a tremendous amount of
mathematical knowledge,
thanks to the department.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Once again, I just wish
that some of the courses were more geared
towards teachers. For instance, instead of a class on
non-Euclidean
geometry, which most
teachers will never teach, have a class that
teaches us how to teach
geometry in the high school classroom.
Graduation Date: 5/1/2005 Major Code: ELMA
Comments On Overall Education I felt that that
education was good but it was lacking in the respect that if
you did not know your
major coming into college, you were screwed
because you would have to
squeeze all the requirements that you needed
into your scedule.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I felt that the math
department was great in its classes, but because math
is so dificult I felt that some upper level
classes should be taken into
account and weighted so
as to compare fairly with other majors.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I felt that TCNJ has
fully prepared me for the teaching world and I am
very grateful for the
numerous courses offered in the education
department.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I felt that the food was
horrible.
Department's Greatest Assets The best thing I can say
about the Math and Stat department is that the
professors were always
available for extra help int heir office hours.
Department's Greatest Liabilities The worst thing I can say
about the Math ans stat department is that
some math classes were
three hours long at night and that has to be the
worst time to schedule a
class (during dinner) and no one can
concentrate for three
hours on math. If a class HAS to be scheduled at
that time, then a bigger
break than just 10 minutes should be given to the
students.

Comments On Overall Education I enjoyed campus life and
the classes usually went smoothly.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I enjoyed most of the
teachers and the workload was bearable, but I had
some complications with
obtaining my stat minor.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets It was a very
student-friendly evvironment for the most part and tried to
help out its students.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities The school just seemed to
get a little boring as the years went on for
some reason.
Department's Greatest Assets TCNJ did an excellent job
of offering a wide variety of mathematics
concepts and classes.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Most of my statistics
classes did not include an in depth computer
programming course.
Graduation Date: 5/1/2005 Major Code: MATT
Comments On Overall Education I think that I was well
prepared for my future as a math teacher.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Overall, the TCNJ math
department is great. Although some
teachers
are harder than others, I
realize now that I'm finished that I was
challenged just enough
and that I learned a lot of things that I can take
with me.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I am leaving with great
friends, even in my own department. The
best
part of school was
meeting people that I could both do my work with and
also become great friends
with.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities N/A
Department's Greatest Assets I loved the history of
math class and the methods of teaching math
classes. I wish I had more methods classes because
that is what I will
use the most when teaching.
Department's Greatest Liabilities N/A
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I have had wonderful
teachers
Comments on Math/Stat Department Once again, great
teachers
TCNJ's Greatest Assets very friendly atmosphere
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities i cant think of anything
Department's Greatest Assets very good teachers
Department's Greatest Liabilities for my major, I felt I
had too many math courses that wont help me in my
future career. I needed more classes about how to teach math
to young
children.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education The education itself was
good, but I feel the college lacks enough
dynamic professors who
can really get students interested in the
material they are
teaching. The best professor I had in
college was in a
class I thought I would
hate because of the material, but because of the
professor it ended up
being my favorite class from college.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I do feel I was
challenged with the material, but I am leaving with a bad
taste in my mouth because
of some professors lack of helping students
that were
struggling. I have had mostly great
professors who I enjoyed
having and taught me
invaluable information.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I appreciated the small
class size, it makes the transition into college
much easier. I feel I was given the opportunity to grow
here at TCNJ. I
am entering a field I
never imagined I would be entering and I owe that to
my experience at TCNJ.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I feel that all students
at TCNJ miss out on a social growth aspect at
TCNJ. Because the campus is cut-off from the
outside community there
isn't a warm feeling
around town towards the students. Even
after
joining organizations to
work on this issue that many students feel exists
I was discouraged after
finding out how many people at the College and
in the community are
unwillining to remedy this problem.
Department's Greatest Assets I feel that the math
program is challenging. I was fortunate
enough to
have some really great
professors, some of whom inspired me to pursue
other academic goals in
my future. I feel that I will be
successful in
graduate school because I
was so well challenged in my program at the
math department.
Department's Greatest Liabilities For the most part I feel
that all of the professors are willing to help, but
the two that I came
across that weren't helpful really did put a damper on
my experience here.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Overall pretty good
Comments on Math/Stat Department Overall pretty good.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I feel that TCNJ has made
me become a more mature and responsible
person
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Costs-fees that never
even applied to my college esperience, (ie student
center, stduent
activites, etc), construction, lack of parking
Department's Greatest Assets challenging yet fair
courses
Department's Greatest Liabilities some professors were
unfair or just bad teachers
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I was not happy with on
campus housing. There should be coat
hangers
in the bathrooms of
school buildings. Students should also
be notifyed of
holds on registration. Advisors and records and registrations should
be more knowledgeable and
what courses count for what degree
requirements.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I am hesitant to give a 4
because there were things that could have been
done better. I feel like some teachers curve the bottom
end of the class
to better non failing
grades, but a student with a B will not get curved to a
B+ or A-.
However I do feel that the Mathematics Professors I have had
worked very hard to prepare coherent lectures
for students. I feel like
the time I spent in class
was well worth each moment.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets The atmosphere of
motivation to achieve at is
contagious. I think I have
made contributations to
that atmosphere and thatatmosphere has pointed
me in the right direction as far as attitude.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Overworking. I think that there is a balance, and tcnj is
real close to
tipping the scale if they
haven't already.
Department's Greatest Assets The greatest assets are
the mathematical truths that I have discovered
and or been taught, and
not just the truths themselves, but the process of
discovery and presistance to conclusion.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Insecurity of not
understanding is very stressful. I was
forced to
develope an attitude of
'It is ok if I do not understand everything at this
moment because that does
not mean that I will never learn it.'
However
there were points where I
could not figure out an answer or the next step,
and I would be stuck at one point for hours.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I feel my education at
tcnj was well rounded and challenging.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Every class I have taken
within the Mathematics and Statistics
department was
challenging and well organized. I
enjoyed the
experience and felt as
though my knowledge of mathematics was truely
deepened.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I feel as though I am
well prepared for any challenges. After
studying
abroad at another
college, I realized just how tough the courses at
TCNJ are
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Some of the education
classes I was required to take seems pointless
and a waste of time.
Department's Greatest Assets The professors in the
Mathematics and Statistics Department are truely
wonderful. They challenge their students and make the
material
comprehendable. They are willing to help students during
their free time
and in general do a great job teaching.
Department's Greatest Liabilities The only weakness I have
found is not doing more with computers and
mathematics. Throughout my entire time at TCNJ, I was
never required
to do any work on
computer math programs (not even on excel).
I feel
that in order to be
competitive with other school, a more technology
based education in
required.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I think some of the
classes that are forced upon on us here at TCNJ are
a waste of time and will
never be used again in our lives.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Some of the professors
here have done a great job getting me ready, but
on the contrary some of the professors here I
dont believe should be
teaching
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I think TCNJ is helpful
with getting your teaching certification.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities none
Department's Greatest Assets I think the methods of
teaching courses are great and give many helpful
ways to teach.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I just dont think some of
the higher math classes we had to take will be
useful to us in our
teaching.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I feel extremely
well-prepared to enter the teaching workforce, thanks to
much field experience.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Top-notch department,
professors were generally available and cared
about us.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Plenty of field
experience so I already feel comfortable in front of the
classroom and have plenty
of tools at my disposal.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I have to question some
of the administration's decisions of how they
spend their money and how
much they actually care about the students
after we've chosen to
attend. Logo, apartments, carte
blanche...all
horribly dealt with
during just 3-4 years.
Department's Greatest Assets I entered with an
aversion to statistics and geometry...I'm leaving loving
them, due as much to the
professors as the actual subject.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Honestly, can't really
think of anything. I was very satisfied
with the
department.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education All professors were
knowledgable in their field, classes were always
challenging, honors
classes gave me the opportunity to explore unusual
topics such as Human
Rights, I feel as though my education help mold
me to becoming a
well-rounded person.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Math classes were very
challenging, but many topics were not
necessary to study in
such depth for a teaching position. JPE
and
student teaching, in
addition to the Methods of Teaching courses, were
extremely beneficial and
worthwhile for my future jobs.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets One asset of TCNJ is the
wide range of extracurricular activities and
organizations this
institution offers. I had the
opportunity to participate in
several organizations, including LDP (the
Leadership Development
Program). Through LDP, I was able to strengthen my
leadership skills
including public
speaking, motivating members, working as a team,
organizing major
programs, etc. All these skills will
transfer easily into
my future jobs, and I am
grateful for the experiences I had with LDP.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I can't think of any
classes that would HINDER my future success, but
there were several
classes I felt were useless and a waste of time--
particularly several of
the 200-level education classes.
Sophomore
Experience meant visiting
a ton of schools to observe (but-um-we've
been 'observers' in the
classroom for our entire lives), and then listening
to a professor lecture to us about the
importance of communication
(verbal, non-verbal, and
environmental). This is just one example
of a
nonsense class that was
common sense--and if people couldn't figure
out how to communicate by
the time they are in college, they probably
have other issues all
together!
Department's Greatest Assets The greatest asset from
the Math Dept was the level of challenge the
classes provided. My math classes forced me to really slow down
and
work hard in order to
fully understand the material. These
classes also
helped me learn how to
'think'--particularly, to think analytically; I feel that
this skill will be very beneficial to me in
the future. Additionally, the
methods classes were very
worthwhile, giving me insight to the newest
teaching philosophies and
methods, and I had the opportunity to try out
many of these methods and
ideas in my student teaching and JPE.
Department's Greatest Liabilities While the upper-level
math classes were beneficial in many ways, I often
wished throughout my
undergrad career that we had more classes that
covered some topics from
high school in more detail. For example,
Abstract Algebra really
got into polynomials through rings, etc, and I
found those lectures and
topics interesting and worthwhile because I will
be teaching polynomials some day, so it
provided me with additional
information and
background ideas. However, the
non-Euclidean
geometry class we are
required to attend--while interesting--really has
no affect to our future
occupation as teachers because we need to teach
Euclidean geometry. While student teaching, I have 2 sections of
honors
geometry, and I essentially have to go back
and re-teach every section to
myself because it's been eight years since
I've seen most of this
material!

Comments On Overall Education The only problem I had
during my four years at TCNJ was the
transformation. It was a
very confusing process and sometimes advisors
and professors were just
as confused as the students and couldn't
provide the right
assistance.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Again, the only problem I
had was during the transformation. Students
were confused as to what
classes counted as electives and, also, what
was now rrequired of
them.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets The faculty at TCNJ is
amazing. I really liked that professors really got
to know their students
and formed helpful relationships with them.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I keep saying it, but one
of the worst things was experiencing the
transformation. Too many
people were confused and everyone had
different answers to the
same questions.
Department's Greatest Assets The math and stat
department was always willing to help. Professors
made it quite clear that
they were always ready and willing to help
students.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Particular to the Math
Teaching program, I think the worst thing was the
lack of education
classes. The methods classes were very helpful, but I
would have liked to take
more classes in the education department such
as special ed and
psycology.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I believe that general
education courses and the
set classes were a waste
of time and had no effect on my preparation for
the real world. It would have been better to pick the classes
that I saw
were relevant to my life
and my future rather than have them picked for me
Comments on Math/Stat Department I believe that there
could have been more teaching based courses and
less math courses. Although I do believe that many of the higher
level
math courses helped my
understanding of the high school level concepts.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Since TCNJ makes you do
everything yourself and does not even tell you
that you have to do it, I
feel like I am better prepared to get things done
for myself without help
from anyone else.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I dont really know of
any.
Department's Greatest Assets The methods courses gave
valuable information, and the student
teaching and field
experience were invaluable in preparing me to
become a teacher.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I could have learned more
about the curriculums of schools and methods
of teaching real world classes, and not the
imaginary classes we
learned about in methods.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I feel I was prepared in
content area and the pedagogy classes readied
me for teaching.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I received a good
background in Mathematics.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I have received a firm
education in many areas.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I did not see the point
in the
Department's Greatest Assets The methods class gave me
some good activities that I have tried in the
classroom.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I did not like the
Geometry class. I feel that since we will teach Euclidean
Geometry, it would be
more useful to be familiar with that.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education TCNJ claims to be very
diverse and is accepting of people from many
different
backgrounds. However, TCNJ does not have
this diversity
present. I feel diversity helps people learn about
other people and at the
same time learn about
themselves. This is not something you
learn in a
classroom, but should be
part of the college experience. TCNJ
needs to
create a learing atmosphere that resembles the
'real world' with people
from a very diverse
background. In addition, TCNJ makes it
too easy for
someone to just follow
the ordinary and does not push people to strive for
the unreachable. To do this I think the teachers should push
their
students to realize that
school is a job when you are here; and it is your
responsibility to do your
work. College is a priviledge, and the
majority
TCNJ students take it for
granted. This is a fault of the college
becuase
they attract the same types of students every
year. TCNJ needs to to
reach to a more diverse
background of students applying.
Comments on Math/Stat Department The Math Department has
the best teachers I had in college. They
seemed like they were the
most prepared out of profesors from other
departments, and they
loved what they did. The math profesors
demanded the students to work
hard and learn the beauty
of mathematics. In math classes the
teachers
made it impossible to
just memorize the hard problems, instead I feel I
have ingrained in my head
the major thms and concepts of the courses
(which will probably be
with me forever). The only thing I feel this
department needs is more
hands on work. I feel the students
should be
required to take more
courses in applied mathematics. And be
familiar
with Maple, Mathmatica,
and Matlab. Anyone going into research
today
is going to have to face
computers. The Math department needs to
train
their students better in
technology (ie maybe in require courses in
CompSci). In my own personal experience, through an
internship I felt
my Math background gave
me the intuition to solve a variety of problems,
just by the way I
analysis them. This was probably the
result of writing
proofs and doing math
problems. When most people were hung up
on
the Math part, I
understood. Although, when it came to
computer stuff I
was definetly at a
disadvantage.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets My problem solving skills
and the fact that I can think about all possible
cases that could arise in
a situation. This is the direct result
of writing
proofs and understanding
logic. And there is no substitute for
hardwork.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Not enough interaction
with other people that are different from me.
Department's Greatest Assets Realizing that it is my
responsiblity to do my own work. Math is
something that you need
to learn by yourself. You must find a
way to
teach yourself
mathematics. This idea alone of teaching
yourself new
concepts is what people
need to do to excel in life. The math
program
has given me the
confidence that I can teach myself something new as
well as solve problems
efficiently. In addition, I know where
to reference
Math theories or
techniques that will help me solve a math problem,
(which was learned in a
classroom).
Department's Greatest Liabilities My inexperience in
working with computer programs and hands on
applications.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I feel that as a
secondary education major a course in special education
should be required.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I feel that since
geometry is required for MATT, that it should
concentrate on Euclidian
geometry since that is a subject, that MATT
majors will have to
teach.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets It is a small school,
where the professor really get to know their students
and give them time to get
extra help.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities It is a suitcase school,
so it is difficult to find things to do on the
weekends.
Department's Greatest Assets I feel that Methods II
really prepared me to teach middle school
Department's Greatest Liabilities I feel that Methods II
could go more in depth on techniques to teach high
school students and not focus on the
statistical apsects of education
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I largely found the
teachers, students, and courses to be engaging,
instructional, and
challenging. Some of the courses,
however,
particularly general
education classes, seemed to lack focus and
direction.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Overall, I was very
pleased with the mathematics department at TCNJ.
Almost all the teachers
seemed highly motivated to help students
succeed and commanded
respect for the knowledge each clearly held in
mathematics. Very few of the classes lacked the drive and
focus I
desired.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets TCNJ gathers together
highly motivated students who not only desire to
succeed themselves but
strive to assist their peers in succeeding.
Small and interactive
classes are one of TCNJ's greatest assets, as are
the numerous energetic teachers who willingly
go out of their way to
help students
succeed. The curriculum is structured so
that students
are exposed to a wide
variety of disciplines while still having the flexibility
and freedom to explore in depth whatever
fields they desire. In addition, I
feel that the Honors Program is a valuable
asset to the school in
creating a venue of
discussion and learning for some of TCNJ's most
intellectually inclined
students.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities TCNJ's transformative
change half-way through my time there adversely
affected me.
I feel that most classes did not contain the increased
workload or challenge
that was desired by the school. Students'
ability to
explore many disciplines was sadly
limited. Significant course material
had to be discarded in
keeping with the changes (particularly in
combining Abstract
Algebra I and II into a single class).
Furthermore, I
found many of the general
education classes I took to be unfocused and
lacking in challenge.
Department's Greatest Assets By and large, I found my
experiences with the Mathematics and Statistics
Department to be exceptional. There were many teachers who were not
only quite knowledgeable
but also able to convey their knowledge in an
enthusiastic manner, in
an interactive classroom setting, and in a venue
that invited challenging
thought and questions. The teachers
offered
additional practice
sessions, extended office hours, letters of
recommendation,
independent studies, and general encouragement that
I am sure greatly
contributed to many students' success.
Most of the
courses contained much
valuable material and progressed at an efficient
pace.
Homework and tests were generally fair and truly helped students
master mathematics.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I feel that some of the
early calculus courses are run at extremely slow
paces and/or do not have
the enthusiastic, challenging, and positive
learning environment
characteristic of most other math classes.
In
addition, there are some
courses that are held without textbooks or with
early drafts of
textbooks; a well-established textbook would greatly
improve the quality of
these courses. Finally, I believe that
the
mathematics department,
if it must embrace transformative change,
should seek to organize
its course of study so that no material previously
taught is abandoned in the new regime,
particularly in restructuring the
classes for abstract
algebra.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education The school is well-known
and highly competitive. The environment is
friendly and
aesthetically pleasing. Classes were challenging but not
impossible.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I was very prepared with
an overall mathematics background. However, it
would have been helpful if the department
focused a bit more on the non-
theoretical side. Whether
or not the department is happy with the fact, it
remains that nearly all
pure math majors do not continue on to theoretical
graduate studies. As an actuary, a more
practical program of study (and
even possibly a minor in actuarial science)
would have been immensely
beneficial. I have
entered my profession at the position of having to 'catch
up' to other actuarial students whose colleges
better prepared them for
the 'actuarial real
world.'
TCNJ's Greatest Assets TCNJ easily became a home
to me. The academic and social
environments were exactly
what I was looking for. They both allowed me
to thrive and pressure
myself to stay ahead daily.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Outside of the nation's
capital, I doubt that thicker red tape can be found
anywhere else in the
country. Administrative departments are difficult, if
not impossible to deal with.
Department's Greatest Assets Since it's a relatively
small department, students and professors become
well-acquainted, and I believe that helps
students feel familiar enough to
go to office hours and just to visit their
professors in general. This is
especially important in a
field like math where many courses require
extensive out of the
classroom studying.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Some professors have a
small case of tunnel vision when it comes to
their specialties. When
you get to the collegiate level, and STILL wonder
'when am i ever going to
need this?' you know there is an issue there.
Theoretical mathematics
and academia are how our professors earn
their livings; it would
be wise for them to keep in mind that the same is
not the case for many of
their students.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Some of the general
education courses did not seem very useful, as I
feltthey could be
compressed into a smaller timeframe.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Many of the mathematics
courses were difficult for me, overall the
mostdifficult courses I
took at TCNJ. However, I feel that I
learned the
mostfrom them as well.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Overall, I found the
faculty at TCNJ to be very responsive to helping
students, and they helped
to raise the courses above just classes.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Overall, I had problems
getting along with the student body at TCNJ.
Department's Greatest Assets The math classes I had
were very in-depth and thorough, and I learned,
and was challenged, more
in them than in my other classes.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Most of the math courses
I took focused mainly on theory, so I am not
surehow prepared I am for
applying mathematics to things.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I have had a wonderful
experience at TCNJ. There are so many
opportunities to learn
and become involved in the college community.
The professors are great
scholars who truly enjoy their work and care
about their students.
That has made my experience here so nice.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I am so glad to have had
the experience of being a student in this math
department. My math
professors challenged me to work hard and spent
many hours helping me to
be successful. I enjoyed studying with other
students, working with
them on projects and having the opportunity to
present our work. The
goals and requirements of the math program
were clear, and the
professors and secretaries were always there to help
with any problems along the way. The support
and high quality of the
math department have made
it a wonderful place to learn.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets -
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities -
Department's Greatest Assets The professors in this
department are wonderful. I came here as a math
major because I had
always liked math and thought it was fun. The
professors taught me that
mathematics is a much richer subject than I
ever knew. They showed me
the beauty and intricate connections within
mathematics, and their
enthusiasm was contagious. Their high
standards and constant
encouragement pushed me to work harder and
go beyond what I would
have had the confidence to attempt on my own. I
would not have gotten as
far as I have without their help. I am so grateful
for the quality education
I have received from such excellent faculty. I will
miss this department, but
I feel prepared and look forward to continue
studying mathematics in
graduate school.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I have benefitted so much
from the math department. I can't think of
anything to complain
about. I only wish I could have taken more math
classes and independent
studies because I learned so much from those
that I did take. I think
I will be well prepared for graduate study in many
areas, although probably
less prepared in analysis.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I felt that my experience
at TCNJ was great. The math professors were
exceptional and I always
felt that I was getting the best possible
education.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I was constantly being
challenged and worked harder than I could have
imagined. The professors
offered a lot of support and helped to make the
experience truly rewarding.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I have a great deal of
confidence in myself and my ability to work hard. I
have achieved levels that
I never thought possible.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities The transformation of the
curriculum was a large negative. It didn't allow
us any room to take elective courses and
explore things we may have
had an interest in.
Department's Greatest Assets The professors are by far
the best part of the department. They are
compassionate, they are
knowledgeable, and they are appoachable. I
always was afraid that I
would have professors that I wouldn't be able to
go to for help, but that
wasn't the case at all.
Department's Greatest Liabilities The one thing that always
baffled me was that professors made the tests
harder than they knew we
could handle and then put a large curve on the
test. Other than that, I
have no complaints.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I think I learned a lot,
but do not think that taking certain classes will help
me anywhere in my future
career.
Comments on Math/Stat Department There were some classes
with some professors that I felt like I was
wasting my time and not
really learning anything relavent to what I would
need in my future.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Best things about TCNJ
were the people. Most people were down
to
earth and you knew you
were at the same level as all of your peers.
I
could not have honestly
said that about other schools like
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I thought it would be
much harder to get good grades in college.
At
times, I felt many
classes were too easy for TCNJ to be considering
itself 'a public Ivy.'
Department's Greatest Assets There were many great
professors after whom I can see myself
modeling my own teaching
style.
Department's Greatest Liabilities There were many
professors that in my opinion don't know how to teach.
Although these people may
clearly be experts in their respective fields,
their ability to impart
knowledge and relate to college level students is
somewhat lacking. For example, Dr. xxxx clearly is one of the
most
mathematically
knowledgeable people I have ever seen, but she lacks the
ability in many cases to
let students understand the mathematical world
in which she lives. I have no problem with challenging teachers,
but I
feel some professors
clearly excell in math but lack in their ability to
teach it.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Overall I had a great
experience. The reason that I gave my
experience
a B was because from the
point of view of most of my classes I really
enjoyed them and got a
lot out of them, however, the ones that were not
enjoyable, were really
really not enjoyable. Also scheduling
and housing
issues were quite a hassle and dampened the
overall experience here
so therefore it went down
to a 3 as opposed to a 4.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Overall my classes were
great in the mathematics department. The
reason that I gave my
experience a 3 is that when I had great
classes,
they were amazing, but
then when classes were bad, they were really
bad. For example, methods for teaching middle
school mathematics was
an amazing class and I was able to implement what I learned during
my
student teaching. But when it came to my methods of teaching
high
school mathematics, that
class gave me very little. But the good
class by
far outweighed the bad.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets One of the best things
that TCNJ has to offer is the community within the
college as well as the community within the
departments. Within your
major you take classes
with the same people and the same professors
and there is a real
community that is built and that has made this
educational experience
great.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Personally, the housing
and scheduling was horrible. The hoops
that I
had to go through for
housing was so frustrating and I got screwed so
many times. Also I feel that I was not firmly prepared
when it comes to
teaching high school
mathematics. That was the worst major
class that
I had.
Department's Greatest Assets The faculty in the
mathematics department are very supportive and really
were there for me when I
was in their classes. They wanted you
not only
to do well but also to
understand the concepts.I am going away with not
only knowledge from my
classes but understanding of mathematical
concepts. Also methods on how to teach mathematics.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Certain classes such as
the methods of teaching high school
mathematics I took but
did not get a lot out of.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I really feel like I got
a great education here. I have no
regrets about
choosing TCNJ.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I think that the classes were
very challenging and although I didn't like
that at the time, I do
feel very prepared to be a mathematics teacher.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I think that I got a
great education here. I also think that
I made the best
friends of my life here,
which says a lot for the school community as well,
especially greek
life. TCNJ has great programs to get
involved outside
of the classroom and I
think that that has also enhanced my experience
greatly.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities My only complaint is that
the transition from mostly 3 credit classes to
mostly 4 credit classes
made it very difficult to graduate on time.
Luckly I
had a great advisor, but if I didn't I think
that this would have been even
more difficult than it
already was.
Department's Greatest Assets I think that the classes
were very challenging and forced me to really
learn in depth
material. Most of the teachers were also
very good about
being available to meet.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I don't really know if
anything can be done about it, but I feel like
education majors do not
need all of the upper-level math classes and
might be better off with
more methods classes instead.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education My experience here has
been good. I enjoyed the non-major
courses
tremendously (in most
cases) and found that it helped to offset the
difficult major
courses. The college can be difficult to
deal with in some
cases, especially with
student services offices such as financial aid and
student accounts.
Comments on Math/Stat Department In most cases,
mathematics classes in this department are good. I
struggled through some of
them, although you can't entirely blame a
professor for that. The required courses at some points seemed
unneeded for a math
education major but it also does help when you have
to look back during teaching and the students
asks 'what are we going
to use this for?' Sometimes it can be difficult with the math
department to
schedule classes because there are some
professors that have policies
that seem unfair to students. We are in college though.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I loved the campus at
TCNJ. I enjoyed being able to go outside
in the
beautiful weather, I love
being five minutes walking distance to all of my
oncampus friends and the
convenience of route 1 and all it has to offer.
I
also took away the idea
that it's important to educate yourself in many
different aspects not
just the one that you are majoring in. I
found this
out through conversations
with people who spent so much time in major
oriented classes that
their views became skewed and they were bias no
matter what the
conversation was about.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities TCNJ is poor in the
department of student services, and in being
organized with campus
developments. It was always a
dissapointment
that construction
projects would take months and then simply no be
finished. I also think that I didn't get a strong
enough background in
education for my
major. I took an large number of
mathematics classes
but few education based
classes which was detremental to my teaching.
Department's Greatest Assets I love the professors in
this department. They are always
accessable
and love to help out with
advice and work help.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Some of the professors
are difficult to understand and difficult to work
with their policies for
grading and classowork.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I feel very well prepared
to enter the working world due to my time at
TCNJ.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I feel very well prepared
to enter the educational field due to the extensive
mathematics course provided at the college.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets The class sizes and many
activities have allowed me to make many
friends and get the most
out of the college experience.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities There were many issues
with housing (dorms being incomplete) and
scheduling (due to
transformation) that caused many headaches.
The
food was not always
consumable.
Department's Greatest Assets The faculty in the
department was always more than willing to lend a
helping hand, even with
non-academic issues. I have gained a
greater
variety of mathematics
knowledge than many of my friends at other
colleges and
universities.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Being required to take so
many different classes did not allow for
mastery in any one area
of mathematics.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Overall, I had a good
educational experience at TCNJ. Most of
my
professors throughout my
career at TCNJ were helpful and aided me in
a good eduction.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Overall, my experience
with the Math and Statistics Department was very
good.
The faculty and staff were always available and willing to help
with anything I needed.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I am leaving TCNJ with a
strong educational background that will help
me to be the best teacher
and educator that I can be.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I would say that the
worst things about TCNJ were the food and the
housing issues (namely
the situation with the apartments).
Department's Greatest Assets The Math and Statistics
Department was readily available to help me
with any problems that
may have occurred throughout my career,
especially with
scheduling for classes.
Department's Greatest Liabilities The only bad thing about
the Math and Statistics Department was the
difficulty for both the
students and faculty during the stage of course
transformation.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Overall, the classes went
very well, however some professors outside
are biased against those
that are not part of the major in which they
teach in. For example, a teacher in the elementary ed
department biased
against people who aren't elementary ed
majors.
Comments on Math/Stat Department throughout my experience,
the courses were challenging and the
professors were always
helpful tried their best to allow my to understand
the material.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets With the courses that I
have taken, i feel professionally mature and ready
to enter the business
world.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities TCNJ housing. TCNj was unable to complete their apartments
and
didn't keep students up
to date with the process.
Department's Greatest Assets Professors were very
helpful and trying to help all of the students, even
those who aren't
math/stat majors.
Department's Greatest Liabilities During my first couple of
years at TCNJ, my advisor was unaware of the
requirements necessary
for me to graduate on time. Not until my
junior
year was I given an
advisor that had the information that i needed.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Overall, my educational
experience has been very good. I did
find there
individual professors who
were better or worse than others but overall,
they were very qualified
and fair.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I had exceptional
professors that made my educational experience here
at TCNJ so successful and
enjoyable. Some of the professors were
slightly below par and
were not as fair others. But, overall I
feel the math
department here was better than other
departments at TCNJ.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets TCNJ gave me a strong
math background and helped solidify my social
skills.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I don't really have
anything bad to say about TCNJ except the food was
bad.
Department's Greatest Assets The best thing about the
Math department is Dr. xxxx. She is the
best
role model for teaching
that I have seen. She not only
communicates her
information to her students effectively but
she shows true compassion
for them as well.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I found that the grading
some of the professors used was alittle harsh at
times, but was affective
in making students rise to the occassion.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I felt that I gained a
strong mathematical background.
Comments on Math/Stat Department My mathematical
background that I developed was very strong, although
I wish I had gained more
knowledge in educating high school students
for math education.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I felt my education
experience was exceptional.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I wish I had gained a
stronger pedagogy in education.
Department's Greatest Assets I felt the professors
were very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I wish I was more
prepared to teach high school mathematics.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Excellent professors; was
challenged to perform to my highest ability
Comments on Math/Stat Department Also excellent
professors; work was challenging... at times very difficult;
I enjoyed the fact that
homework for most of my classes was a
collaborative effort
(groups of 4 students or so). this was
very helpful to
work with others; wish
there was more tutoring available for some of the
higher level math courses
(eg. Geometry and Abstract Algebra)
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Great sense of
communityBeautiful campusChallenging coursesI feel
like I was challenged
enough that I am now prepared to take on more
challenges in my
profession
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Course schedules -
difficult to understand when college was going
through transition
w/courses
Department's Greatest Assets Small class
sizesProfessors willing to meet outside class
Department's Greatest Liabilities Some courses were very
difficult
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education good overall, but I
wasted taking a few classes because of the
transformed schedule
business
Comments on Math/Stat Department I have no problems with
the department, the professors are all very
knowledgeable and good at
what they do
TCNJ's Greatest Assets the best thing is knowing
that I am prepared now to go on to whatever it
is I am going on to. The
reputation of the school is great and employers
see that.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I think sometimes TCNJ
worries too much about being a public ivy then
worrying about what's best
for the students.
Department's Greatest Assets The availability of all
the faculty for help and whatnot.
Department's Greatest
jumped on a plan, came
right to class wearing his running shorts and a
Hawaiian t-shirt, didn't
say hello (maybe he did...it was a while ago),
picked up chalk said
'Proof' and went on with class... I really don't have
anything bad, the
department was great when I decided to switch to the
major.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Wonderful environment,
students and professors alike. Most
professors
taught material well and
challeneged me to think and do a lot of work.
Beautiful campus with
many areas condusive to studying. Many
organizations available
to provide fun and entertainment.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Very challenging
courses. Professors able to teach
well. I feel like I
learned valuable
information and ways of thinking in each class.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets High caliber people make
up the community. Everyone is respectful
and
able to participate in
positive exchanging of ideas. Mature,
yet fun,
students and
professors. The ability to think
critically and adapt quickly
is the greatest asset I'm
leaving TCNJ with.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities The food was mediocre at
best. The construction of the 'new'
apartments supposedly new
as of fall 2004 are still not built. No
liabilities I can
recognize.
Department's Greatest Assets Highly qualified
professors. They know how to teach and
nurture
positive relationships
with their students. Challenging
coursework.
Willingness to do an
independent study with a student with a high
interest level. My greatest asset is the same as that in
3a...the ability to
think critically and
adapt quickly.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I would've liked to have
seen some more lectures or competitions held
just for fun. No liabilities I can recognize.

Comments On Overall Education Although I had a rocky
start fitting in at first, by now, I feel such a part of
this school. It's
beautiful, supportive and I've made professional and
social contacts in this
place that I wouldn't take back for the world.
Comments on Math/Stat Department This department is full
of caring professors with both professional
accomplishment AND an
interest and ability to teach. I only wish that I
had fallen in love with
the higher order aspects of mathematics and the
possibilities of working
closely with professors earlier in my career.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets The best thing I can say
about TCNJ involves the faculty and the
students I was able to
meet. I am leaving TCNJ with the ability to conduct
myself professionally, to analyze and with
lots of interdisciplinary
experiences.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities My only complaints are
minor probably because of my field. I only wish
that i had been
encouraged to pursue mathematics earlier as well as the
education aspects of
math. It's just hard to find that balance when the
education-related things
take up so much.
Department's Greatest Assets The professors and their
knowledge are beyond words. I am so grateful
to have worked with
everyone here. There have been so many
opportunities in my
junior and senior year to excel academically and
educationally.
Department's Greatest Liabilities The only liability I am
leaving this department with is separation anxiety!
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education TCNJ's academics exceeded
the expectations I came in with in 2002,
and Iam very pleased with
my experiences here. The large amount of
gen. ed.requirements
would probably be my only complaint.
Comments on Math/Stat Department The math department in
particular was excellent, in 4 years I did not
haveone professor that I
would have considered below average, and most
of themwere well above average. Also, the faculty is generally available
for anycomments or
concerns I have, and they keep the students'
priorities abovetheir own
in almost all occasions. I learned A TON
of
helpful informationover
the years, not just specifically math related, but
real world adviceas
well. I can only hope that the next
department I
encounter can comeclose
to this one.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I feel that I'm leaving
TCNJ with a much better understanding of my life
goals, specifically
career-wise. I was also able to get
involved in many
extra curricular
activities at TCNJ, and I feel that has helped with my
sense of leadership, as
well as working as part of a team.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities The honors program could
use a little improvement, specifically by
offering honors courses
in more departments (i.e. math), so that
honors
students aren't forced to take courses that
they have no interest in in
order to meet the
requirements.
Department's Greatest Assets I talked about the best
things about the department in 2b. The
greatest
asset I'm leaving the
department with is probably my appreciation for
math, particularly pure
math. This is a result of not only the
several
courses I have taken
here, but the enthusiasm they were taught with.
Before TCNJ, I had no
intentions of graduate school or teaching, but
after 4 years here I plan
on spending the rest of my life teaching and
learning math.
Department's Greatest Liabilities n/a
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education b/c some of the classes
which i took lacked the drive and focus I desired.
Comments on Math/Stat Department small class size, and I
found the some prof.are approachable to
helping
students.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets A solid background in
Abstract Algebra (group theory, Galois theory)
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities none
Department's Greatest Assets none
Department's Greatest Liabilities none
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I think that there were
entirely too many general education courses
needed to graduate. I
have been told that their intention is to make us well
rounded students, but I don't think that they
have accomplished their
goal. The think that has
made me a well rounded student is sharing
experiences outside of
the classroom with my professors and fellow
students.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I have some radical
education ideas, so that is primarily the reason for a
3 instead of a 4. I
dislike going to class two times a week for an entire
semester, especially
while taking 3 or 4 other classes. If I had the
choice, I would want to
have a high concentration of studying for a
subject over 2 weeks (an
only one subject), and then one or two practice
quesitons a week for the
remainder of the semester. Basically, I wish all
of my math courses were
independent studies. I learned the most from
my independent studies,
and established the best relationship with my
professors while doing
so.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets Great social community.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities food selection and
administrative reliability (not Dr. P, people like
records and registration
or student services)
Department's Greatest Assets the professors and
interesting elective choices
Department's Greatest Liabilities Having to do labs in
linear algebra, or required to come for the 1 hour
wednesday classes.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Little to no appreciation
for Mathematical and Scientific Coursework.
Bad food--not vegetarian
friendly. Frequent Judeo-Christian
overtures/lack of
accomodation towards non Judeo-Christian traditions.
Campus Police [perhaps
even deliberately] misadvise students on
parking.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Presence of Math Ed.
majors tend to change the scope and depth of
classes. Often, their discontent does not reflect the
opinions of the rest
of us.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets An ability to effectively
voice discontent towards estabilished institutions.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities They created situations
where I needed to actively voice discontent
towards established
institutions. An active discontent
towards this
school.
Department's Greatest Assets The strong encouragement
to take a Math option very early on in my
Major career.
Department's Greatest Liabilities No great
liabilities. Nothing really bad.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education School was fun, thought
the school really screwed me over a lot with
housing, but it was
overall a pretty good experience.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Had lots of great
teachers and learned plenty and thought the
department was for the
ost part great. Loved the challenge of
being a
Math major.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets There are some great
great teachers like professor xxxx and these
teachers make the whole
school a better place.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities I hate the lottery system
and how much it screwed me over with housing.
Department's Greatest Assets Greatest thing abou tthe
Math department is great teaching.
Teachers
rock.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Sometimes there are some
bad advisors. But sometimes there are
some
great ones too, like professor xxxx, who was
the greatest advisor ever.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I felt that some of the
classes I took weren't very useful, or material that
could have been learned
in 2 weeks was dragged out over an entire
semester. Also, I'm an off-campus student, and aside
from going to
class, I rarely felt that
anything going on here was worth driving up for.
Comments on Math/Stat Department I really enjoyed most of
my math classes, and with topics classes and
independent studies, I
felt that I was able to tailor my education to what I
was most interested in,
which was nice.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I definitely got a good
education, and I'm leaving with a solid
understanding of the
material from the classes I took.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Aside from the things I
stated in 1b, the campus was pretty not diverse,
and since I come from a
diverse area, the general atmosphere was
boring sometimes.
Department's Greatest Assets As stated above, I
definitely feel that i learned and retained a lot of
information, and I
enjoyed the classes I took, for the most part.
I also
liked that the professors
expressed their enthusiasm for math, which was
not always the case with other departments I
encountered in the school.
Department's Greatest Liabilities Some of the classes
assigned what I consider to be 'busy work' for
homework. At times, a large number of repetetive
problems were
assigned, and I would
have preferred a smaller amount of problems that
required more creative
thinking.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I wouldn't give it a four
because I certainly had more than a few bad
experiences, but the
creative writing minor is amazing as are so many of
the English Dept. faculty.
Comments on Math/Stat Department Overall, it wasn't a good
experience. The students are all over the map
because so many of them
are teaching majors which makes it difficult for
the classes to move at the appropriate speed.
The classes are all
different difficulties,
and not in such a way that it gets harder as you go
and so you are ready to
tackle the one or two hardest at the end. Some
classes are just
difficult because of teachers and not the material. Some
of the most difficult
material I faced was well taught and well structured
so that it was manageable
and I still had a chance to succeed. Some
teachers focus on
memorization of proofs which is time consuming and
doesn't feel worthwhile.
But teachers like Dr. xxxx and Dr.
yyyy make this program
worthwhile. Not that I don't like the others
(there are only two
teachers that I don't like), I just feel xxxx and
yyyy are truly
exceptional.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets The best things I can say
is that most of the faculty is excellent. The
creative writing minor is
great. The housing is nice after Freshman
year. An asset... I guess
that TCNJ has taught me that I can stick with a
passion and that I'm
capable of arranging large events for my community.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities The worst thing about
TCNJ is the community. There are so many
sororities, fraternities,
and so little people that go out to the good events
on campus. The only
liability I have, is that I haven't had to write any
papers in college. The
longest I've written is a seven page paper and I'm
headed into a program where I will be writing
25 page papers.
Department's Greatest Assets Best things – Dr. xxxx
and DR. yyyy.Assets -- Logic. I
think learning ways to
prove things and ways to state things are all very
important in broadening
the way we think. I'm glad I learned it and
practiced it.
Department's Greatest Liabilities The worst things I can
say about the Math Dept are well known by the
head of Differing
Abilities, the Dean of the
Dept head, so I find no
need to repeat them here. A liability... I leave
TCNJ less trusting of my
educators.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education I am very happy with the
education I receieved from TCNJ.
Comments on Math/Stat Department The professors I dealt
with were very helpful. However, my advisor was
changed three times
without my knowledge. My advisors were careless
and vague in their advice
related to my course selections.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets I am leaving TCNJ with a
rounded education and I feel fully prepared to
enter the working world.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities TCNJ needs to spend more
time advising students on topics such as
course selections and how
to graduate on time.
Department's Greatest Assets The professors in the
Mathematics and Statistics Department were
incredibly kind and
knowledgeable.
Department's Greatest Liabilities The advisors of the
Mathematics and Statistics Department did not have
proper training.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education TCNJ is both a beautiful
campus and a prestigious school. The
education program is
excellent, and I feel that I am ready to work as a
great teacher.
Comments on Math/Stat Department The faculty and the
classes in the Mathematics Department are both
excellent.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets The education program is
very helpful and was a great benefit to me as a
student.
Both the JPE program and student teaching internship allowed
me to develop the skills necessary to become
an effective teacher.
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Registering for classes
can be very frustrating, especially for first year
students. Although many improvements have been made
while I attended
the school, it can still be made easier.
Department's Greatest Assets The faculty is always
available to answer and questions or problems, and
I learned alot from each teacher. The teachers are well-qualified and
very helpful. I enjoyed taking many of my math classes and
wish there
were opportunities to
take more higher level classes with my major.
Department's Greatest Liabilities The only problem I had
within the math department was the MATH 342
class I took as part of
my JPE block. This class was a waste of
time,
since I learned nothing
from the two hours a week I spent sitting in class.
Graduation Date:
Comments On Overall Education Teachers knowledgeble
Comments on Math/Stat Department Professors always willing
to give extra time, help, and guidance. Solid
math background for
future employment.
TCNJ's Greatest Assets diverse community
TCNJ's Greatest Liabilities Changing to the unit
system. Eliminating a more diverse core of classes.
Department's Greatest Assets Professors always willing
to give extra time, help, and guidance. Solid
math background for
future employment.
Department's Greatest Liabilities I wish upper level
classes were offered more than once every two years.
