How do I get RES.net service?

So, you wanna be a RES.net-er. Well, first you need to install a network interface into your computer. This device can be purchased:

Specifications for PCs, MACs and other computers are available on the TSC RES.net pages.

You will also need software to permit you to do "Internet Things" like FTP and telnet, as well as to receive E-MAIL. These packages can be had by looking at the TSC RES.net pages.

At some point during the summer, applications and information sheets were mailed from the college to you. If you did not receive one or need another, applications are available in Green Hall Room 16 (Basement level). Fill out the application and place it in the appropriate bin (arranged by residential location) in Green Hall room 16. For the month of September, students will be asked to bring their PC to Green Hall room 16 when contacted by an RCC. Installation will be done at that point. Sometime after September, installations will be done by the RCC in the student's room (This method was chosen because it is predicted that the RCCs would not possibly be able to keep up with all the install requests for the first month. Once the fervor has died down, the RCCs will do in-room installations).

After Interface and Software installation is complete, it is anticipated that there will be a one to two day delay before the data connection is made to the room, enabling the PC access to RES.net. This is because each room must be connected individually to the RES.net network hubs.

*Network interface hardware will be available in Green Hall for most of the month of September. As of the start of the month, a certain number of interfaces have been ordered. More are on order in anticipation of student response. Sometime after September (when the run on interfaces dies down), the responsibility for the sale of the interfaces will be transfered to the TSC bookstore.
