Grade Components and Weighting
Final course grades will be determined based on evaluation of student performance in five areas, using the following weights
1. Midterm exam 20%
2. Final exam 20%
3. Design Project 20%
4. Ethics Case Analysis 20%
5. Participation 20%
Each will be evaluated on a 0-100 point
scale and then averaged together to obtain the final numeric grade. Numeric
grades will be converted to letter grades as follows:
A (93-100)
C+ (77-79)
A- (90-92)
C (73-76)
B+ (87-89)
C- (70-72)
B (83-86)
D+ (67-69)
B- (80-82)
D (60-66)
F(0-59)
Participation Grade
Participation will be based on your attendance, preparation for, and participation in class. Performance on 4-6 unannounced quizzes on the readings will be the major component in assessing your preparation for class. You may use your notes to answer the quiz but not the readings themselves. No makeup quizzes will be given.
A supplemental reading and reporting assignments (this semester, on Cloning ) and your contribution to class discussions will be basis for evaluating class participation.
Your overall participation grade will be based on the following weights:

Supplm. assignment 35
Class discussion

Classes/lectures missed 4 points will be subtracted
for each seminar or lecture missed beyond a total of two.
